I can't imagine a move to Ladysmith from a large city unless you love the outdoors. Hunting, fishing, hiking, etc. Schools are good--compared to large eastern cities. Ladysmith compared to area public schools is average. Consider OLS (Catholic grade school) if your children are in PK - Grade 8. Flambeau schools, within a few miles, are considered better.
Make sure to tour any place before you rent. I rented in this town for awhile and speak from experience. Rent will certainly be lower than what you paid our east--you may want to consider buying. Some good properties along the flowage and along the river.
