Nice I am Irish after all!

I have made a guess at $200 a month for Health Insurance, would that be adequate?

Also budgeting on a 7% gross 401k - is that enough would I need to increase it?

I have included, county tax on income, FICA at 7.5%, Health insurance at $200, 401 K at 7%. Is there any glaringly obvious ommissions from my calculations?

Sorry I have so many questions. Just this stuff is coming at me in dribs and drabs, and its a fairly big move. Need to make sure I have my facts right before I jump!

Thanks again for all your replies.

I don't believe there is a county income tax, though there is a state income tax. All of the items you have accounted for will automatically be deducted from your paycheck.

Sorry its the state income tax that I meant!

Just hoping I haven't missed out on any big costs or expenses.

Don't forget federal income tax, which at your level of income minus exemptions and deductions will probably be about 10%

FICA is a separate federal tax to fund Medicare and Social Security -- this is called the payroll tax. You'll pay about another 10% income tax on top of that.

Taxation is a mess in this country. You don't even want to know what property taxes in Wisconsin are like. Fortunately that won't be your problem if you rent.

Right I definitely won't be buying somewhere. Thats a kicker. Was getting all excited about the move, and then got hit with that.
Although the Irish Budget is currently going on. That could fairly hammer us here so It could very easily influence my decision.

1 more question - What is the normal Annual Leave entitlement excluding public holidays in Wisconsin?

For the private sector, the standard leave is 2 weeks vacation your first few years of service, plus a few days for sick time, personal time, et cetera. This is standard across the U.S. Sucks by European standards, but Americans are used to it.
