We moved to the Wausau area from Chicago 21 years ago. Love it. We moved because we wanted our kids to grow up in a safe environment. And they did!
We drove through Antigo last weekend. It is still a nice town.

In my opinion, Antigo is one of the best places to a raise a family. The crime is very low, most violations are alcohol/drug related. However I feel that the schools here are very nice and provide children with a good educational foundation. The city just built a massive community-funded playground near a local private school, which should be a big hit for the kids this upcoming summer. If you are looking for a big night life, though, this is not the place for you. The bars are the only thing to go to at night, with many of them being rather dirty and scuzzy. Cost of living isn't bad at all, espicially with the low mortgage rates.

Thank you for your response. That is just what I wanted to hear. I'm not too interested in the night life so that won't be a problem for me. You just describes what I've been looking for. A nice, quiet, small town in the northwoods area where you can feel safe and with great schools and great people, too.
