Their has already been a freeze in areas of northern Wisconsin so that should accelerate the fall foliage season there.

We actually had hard frost here last week killed alot of the not so hardy plants and many gardens that did not get covered.
See some reds, orange and yellow but strange in town can be color in one tree and other side of yard green.Just hope winds not come like usual as colors get good and winds come blow em all off.(Helps me when bow hunting
though)

Leaf It To Rusk Fall Festival Sept.26 - 29 usually is around peak up here..Have routes for fall color changes up here also through Rusk,Price Sawyer counties.

Milwaukee's alternative weekly, the Shepherd Express, has a cover story on good road trips to make for fall colors:

Thanks for the info quijote, I'll be making a visit to SW WI next week and will have a few extra days for exploring around in the rental car. Should be a pretty good time for leaf peeping in that area. Plus, I can stop by Oktoberfest in La Crosse for refreshments, but no driving afterwards.

It will be a welcome change to see some nice fall colors on real trees, I'm tired of the drab brown southern california terrain, where it rained today (maybe a quarter of an inch) for the first time in about 5 or 6 months.

Yesterday (Saturday, Sept. 22) a friend and I took a day trip (*very* long drive) from Milwaukee through Green Bay to Marinette/Menominee (Wisc/Mich border), then over to Iron Mountain (in Mich, on the Menominee River), then back down into Wisconsin. The colors were very vibrant as we approached Iron Mountain, but elsewhere on our journey the colors hadn't quite gotten started.

Next weekend we're heading toward Baraboo, though I gather the leaves will still not have approached their peak.

I personally loved the beautiful fall colors as we drove from Park Falls to Minocqua. In fact the Minocqua Chamber of Commerce on their website say that fall color is there 100% already.

They actually have Fall Color Tours with directions on the website. Wish I was there! Love the Northwoods, fall color, people...don't care for the snow.

There are other beautiful spots I'm sure but that was my personal favorite since we made that drive quite often.
