Default Where and When for Fall Colors

This will be our first year out here and we're wondering about good areas for checking out the fall colors. We've heard a lot about Door County but have no idea when would be a good time to visit for the best colors. I'm assuming that other areas will have their own best times as well.

We're really looking forward to this. Western Washington is many things but the predominant colors come fall are green (the evergreens) and sickly yellow (Big Leaf Maples and Alders.)

If you don't mind a bit of a drive, south west Wisconsin has some amazing Fall color! My family moved out there about 8 years ago from milwaukee area, and we were amazed at the color and hills out there. Wisconsin Dells, Richland Center, up to La Crosse all has some great color.

Perfect! That's exactly the type of thing that I was hoping to find.

Thanks to all who've replied. We have some road trips to make

I noticed just this morning that it seems like colors are changing a little early for SE Wisconsin. There's quite a bit of patchy color already and our peak isn't usually until mid-October. It is just me or does it seem to be going early? Did the couple of chilly nights we had a few days ago confuse the trees? Our family usually plans a small weekend road trip to see colors, we might have to go a week earlier than usual.

Not sure if this is the same link that dreamhunter gave you (it's banned for me at work) but here's another link (possibly the same one!) for fall foliage in WI.
