I'm surprised by all the Eau Claire/Chippewa Falls recommendations. I had a friend who had to sell her house at a lost in this area and moved to MN, cause she said the Meth problem was getting too out of hand in this area. I have actually heard this from more than one person about this area. Does anyone actually live her that can speak to this? I know meth is everywhere, but from what others that have lived here have told me it is really bad in Eau Claire.

What about Watertown? Close enough to drive into Milw or Madison or FDL yet far enough out that it's still a little small town feeling. And lots of old houses!

Hi there, Baraboo is nice and my daughter is going to go to Whitewater which she really liked the area. Portage is pretty small and definately never move to Poynette. It is way to small and you really have to be careful of towns this small. They are run by "good ole boys" as is our school. Money and Winning come before the kids.

I don't live in Eau Claire but I know people who do. They've told me that there is a growing meth problem there and some gang activity (apparently an extension of gang-activity in Minneapolis-St. Paul). The area is beautiful but wages are said to be the lowest of any metropolitan area in the entire midwest. I would also say it's quite isolated from other metropolitan areas.

[quote=andslat;1695626]I currrently live in DePere, which host the 3rd best Liberal Arts College in the country (St Norberts). I like it tremendously an and I have met many other "transplants" here who claim they will never leave. I think you would greatly enjoy living here. Also Port Washington
HUH? St.Norbert isn't even in the top 100.

Waupun is located approximately 1 hour from Madison, Fox Cities and Milwaukee. You can also be to Stevens Point or WI Rapids in 1 .5 hours if he needs to head north. Though we are small at about 10,000 people; we do have a hospital, a public and private school system, plenty of parks and outdoor recreation opportunities. We have great coffee shop!
