Democracy lost this week in Wisconsin. And yearly raises? We have Divide and Conquer here as well. Why give govt workers COLAs and raises? neighbors of legislators who worked in the private sector - who ran their employees out on a rail because they so poorly managed their businesses - are COMPLAINING... it's pure jealousy.

YOU CHOSE to work in the private sector. The private sector TOOK ADVANTAGE OF YOU. How is that MY problem?

That's what Right To Work is all about. Employees BE DAMNED. We can fire you for any reason under the sun - and not be held accountable. Get Ready Wisconsin.

Oh - and we can hire only people we like, aka are of our same "RELIGION", Party, Etc. Etc..... and NOT BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE.

This is incredibly laughable. Just because they have a law does not mean it is enforced. It's what Utah does VERY well. Give the impression of being tough - but not caring one whit.

Have you ever requested a hearing from the Utah Labor Commission? Are you aware how poorly funded they are?

Do you know how many complaints they receive every year from people fired without reason? And how often they side with business?

They are, without a doubt, beholding to the Utah State Legislature - which does NOT aggressively pursue civil nor employment rights issues.

It's the epitome of "small" government. Small minded government.

I am amazed at some of the apocalyptic rants that I keep seeing from the anti-Walker crowd.

Have any of you ever worked in union shops? Non-union shops? A non-union shop can be a beautiful thing. The "us versus them" crap that is fostered in the union environment is poisonous and toxic. The absolute best situation is a fair employer and a thankful employee, with zero unionism to be found.

I've worked in both. The non-union workplaces are places where employees can be, and are, abused at the whim of management; I saw it and have seen it since 1978, when I entered the workforce. The union workplace I'm in now has checks on managerial abuse (or abuse by anyone, for that matter) and procedures put in place for fairness must be followed. I work in accounting and am a firm believer in checks and balances.

Someone posted on City Data about how the election was about envy for many voters; that it was more difficult for the Republicans to attack public employees protected by unions, so they worked to make people envious of these protections. It seems to be the consensus that envy was a prime motivation. Which is pretty sad, that instead of working to gain the same protections for themselves in the profit sector by organizing, they chose to attack their fellow workers in this manner. Divide and conquer indeed.
