We have considered a move there, but would like to live in town, but in a very safe area. We have been looking at Cass St. and King St. between 14th and 18th. Any insight would be appreciated. Thank you!
Cass and King, between 14th and 18th?
No problems there.
Cass and 7th, or the area south of Lincoln middle school is a different story.

Okay.. I live on 9th and Cass Street just a block from Lincoln Middle School and all of you on here make it sound like such a bad place. It's really offending how horrible you make my neighborhood sound. It's not bad at all. We've been here for 14 years and love it. Also, I like how you all say "anything on west of 16th street is bad." Wow, some of the most expensive houses on Cass Street are between 9th and 16th Streets. Also, Aquinas Middle/High Schools are on 10th and Cass Street, the highest quality, private, Catholic middle and high school in the area. So please, be more respectful and smarter when talking about neighborhoods in La Crosse.

People like to speak in generalizations. I know I wouldn't hesitate to live between 7th and West Ave from King to Cameron and possibly a block or two south, but a few blocks north (Vine St and up), a few west (5th Ave and west) and a few more south (Mississippi St to Jackson) you run into a lot of non single family living. It's fine for a single person to live in those places more or less, but not a situation I'd be willing to move my family into.

That doesn't even mention the Hood St area (not as bad as it's reputation, but still not great) or other areas of densely populated student housing (Market St area between West Ave and 16th, Vine through Badger east of West Ave).

Quite frankly, the way re-development is going, there's not going to be such a thing as single occupancy housing from State St to La Crosse St from downtown to UW-L in the longterm future so the point is kind of moot.
