It used to be frustrating to have the Chicago folks come up to Green Bay every weekend. They would throw garbage out of the windows, drive like complete maniacs, and just generall be rude.
You're right, though, more and more people are re-locating from one city to another for job reasons or financial reasons in ALL parts of the country. There are many companies changing their coporate headquarter's location to areas where the cost of doing business is cheaper - which means moving out of CA and NY, etc.
I've been on the search for the right city for me (hence being on this forum) - which would be WI without snow. The cost of living, the people, the Packers...you've got a lot going for you!

Hey! I'm a transplant from California, and I really don't think I'm a mean or rude person. I love Wisconsin, and I love the friendly people here. I would never be rude or mean to them.

I'm with you - though I transplanted from up the coast. I've been very impressed with Wisconsin and the people that I've met here and I do my best to be friendly to the latter and respectful of the former. I'm a bit surprised at how *few* transplants I've met - it seems that almost everyone I've talked to has lived in or around this area for their entire lives. It's such a beautiful area that I'd expect to see transplants everywhere.

That's been my experience too. I haven't met any transplants thus far.

IMO, I think that's the truly beautiful part of WI. I always liked living up there because the very nature of its geographical layout - it's a "dead-end". No thru traffic to get somewhere else. It's wonderfully isolated in its own way.
Everyone talks about the harsh winters, and they ARE harsh, but if you simply wear the appropriate winter accessories (boots, mittens, warm coats) it isn't so bad. Here in FL no one goes outside from July-September because it's incredibly hot. We run from one air-conditioned building to another as quickly as possible! In WI it's the same, except it's January-March, and it's toward the nearest fireplace!

The last few winters have been mild, but it gets cold and snowy and you will not see the sun for somethimes a month and when you do it means a big snow just left and it is sub zero an sunny. I think people need to realize this before they make the move and assess if they can handle a week below zero, the fun of stating a car that no longer even sounds of this earth. I know many think it will be fun, but it can get old and where I live I know alot of people move here, go through two winters and they can not wait to get out!!. If you like the winter activities, then you really do have it made, If you like to ice fish, hunt, ski, or snowmobile, or drink...you will always have company. If you like art festivals and and strolling the town with nice shoes on, you may be disappointed. Just a little reality check for those contemplating the move... and remember, when it gets cold....that is when you property taxes are due!!! Right now it is 85 and on tuesday the high is supposed to be about 48
Cheers

A week(or month) with temperatures below zero doesn't bother me one bit(I'll just dress warmly for it and make use of it, such as making an outdoor ice rink), and I would like to try out snowmobiles and skiing(things I have neer done but would love the chance of doing). The only thing that would bother me about WI is any social issues. That's it. Other than that, WI sounds like fun.
BTW, if it is at all possible(and I understand some people don't have this option), keep the car in the garage and start the car in there. There is also another trick to starting a car. Take a leather jacket and put it over the engine.

You seriously think a couple good ol fashion winters will drive away Illinois transplants? Last I checked our winters were just as bad, if not worse, than Wisconsin's.

Wisconsin doesn't have a monopoly on winter weather. Minnesota, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, and Michigan have the same airmass parked over them during those months.
