The ticks are horrible this year. We go into the woods and we spend an hour pulling them off. Mosquitoes are swarming now too.

Ticks are real bad. I guess all I can say is you have to take all the ticks with the relief of spring finally here. This Memorial day weekend was beautiful. I got my new Schwinn Cycle and rode till dark. I love this warmer weather. Enjoy it while it's here.
Ticks will be ticks.

I'll enjoy the warmer weather when it reaches here. We've had a few low 60s but not much warmer, today is downright windy and chilly but I still walked down to the lake.
It was great seeing people having picnics all bundled up, tossing horseshoes, kids on the playground equipment, making the best of it! I love the fact that people around here get out regardless of the weather, me included!

cougars in wisconsin
The father of a friend of mine hunts in the Dells area. He was bow hunting and while he was up in his tree stand a cougar walked under the tree. He said it was really big. He said seeing one in the wild was awesome. When he went into town he reprorted it to the DNR and he was told that they knew they were there and they were reproducing. So some of them might has started as escaped pets but there young are wild cougars. They used to be common like many other species that were wiped out. So they really are native to this area.

Do you happen to know specifically the area? Would be interested to see that on the map, what kind of terrain, etc.

The wild are also movingin back from the west as deer population is big and will sustain their growth. Wisconsin was originally a home area.

I would say the Black Bears moving more and more into populated areas is kinda scary. My Dad almost hit one on hwy 12/16 the other day and my Mom said they saw another one a couple of weeks ago in the Tomah to Muaston, WI area also.

Some of my family has land outside of Briggsville in Marquette county and he sees a few black bears every year. He also sees a few badgers. I told him the only thing I see in Portage is cheeseheads. lol The black bears do come pretty far south. It's kinda eery having them around. My brother and I do alot of fishing and sometimes we will fish beyond dusk, the area we fish is known to have black bears and you can hear that rustln around at night.

When I read the OP, the first thing that came to my mind is black ice. That stuff was pretty scary to drive on when I lived there. Except for bears, Wisconsin has very few critters that would be as much of a hair-raiser as those we have down here.

Back in the day, when I lived up in Mercer, the bears use to cut across our back "yard" all the time. Once in awhile they would come up on our back porch and snuffle around. Back then you use to have to take your garbage to the dump and there would always be bears in the dump rooting around.
