SNOW SNAKES? I've never heard of such a thing! Even the snow flea thing... ???
Imported one... We were looking at the Lake Delton or Janesville area. We have never been to Wisconsin and were hopingfor SNOW.
There are a few things that are concerning me after posting this question...
Bears, Wolves, Snow snakes???, and KKK or no???
Other than that, It looks super fantastic! Thanks!

Pioneer8,
I am sure you would get snow, just how much is the question. Sometimes it seems that farther south gets more, sometimes less.
There are actually snow fleas. Nothing to worry about, more of an amusing note. Snow snakes are real too, but they are not what you think. You find them mostly when skiing.
If you are in a city area, especially way south, I am thinking that the wild life would be less of a concern.
KKK ? I suppose they are around. I have heard stories, but, Heaven help us, you would think that we have grown into better human beings by now. Maybe not. I can tell you that I lived in Madison for a time and I found the people there quite accepting of all cultures. They consider themselves very forward thinking. Which is funny, because coming from a VERY cosmopolitan St. Thomas USVI, I found the area of Madison to be a little less forward thinking than I was used to. But, after experiencing other places, Madison does seem pretty in step. I know KKK does exist here, but I do not believe that it is anything like the Southern States. I believe they are more of a select group that stay to themselves? I have heard of incedents, but very few. I hope I am not just ignorant on this issue?
As in any state or area, there are exceptions, but generally, I find Wisconsin people intelligent, willing to listen, forward thinking, and generally nice.
Keep researching and do come visit before moving!
Kate

Thanks so much. I did a search for snow snakes... Are you talking about those snow mobile things??? Funny. I was really freaking out... We moved from FL to TX last year and have one major bummer here... (Otherwise, it's been wonderful.)... the snakes!!! We had four... yes, FOUR rattlesnakes on our porch/pool this year! My husband got them with a hoe and it was very awful! I just don't want to run into that type of thing again. I do want to live in the country though, which is why bears/wolves thing isn't sitting well. Thanks for chatting with me. The more information I can gather, the better! Can't wait to visit!

I take my now 4 yr old out with me also..You want snow they talking 1 inch accumulation tomorrow..early in season so will not stay yet but will be nice as may have to go hunting so see where they are going and bedding..If bear and wolves really scare ya get a big hound tied up not come near house.

I've been told the mosquitos and bugs but other than that, not bad. There seems to be a lot of spiders around which I hate but I guess I have to learn to deal.

The scariest thing about WI. is how little there is to do. Unless you live in Milwaukee or live and die for hunting/fishing/drinking there is nothing to do here.
I live in Green Bay and have for 31 years. Appleton has a little vibe going, good shopping and eating. Beyond that, unless you are a outdoor fanatic who can afford to own a boat, hunt,go skiing, etc I would live somewhere between Milwaukee and Madison if you dont want to be bored to tears.

Just Wisconsin Northwoods natural beauty should be enough..Walk in the woods, being with nature good or bad..No smog not alot of Sirens..I can hunt with a camera as well as with a Gun or Bow and have a great time.I take scouts out on nature hikes and little things they see light up their faces..A deer standing there watching, or a owl hooting.Keep kids out from in front of TV,or computer or game station and teaching them life is more than that, grow up being less trouble..These small town out of the way areas have alot of good in them way I see it.

City vs. country
Many people like urban areas and feel anything outside cities has "nothing." They (those of you who feel this way) should stay in the cities, with pollution, noise, traffic, and yes, tons of stores, theaters, restaurants, and other "things to do."
Fortunately it seems to be a smaller number of us who love the peace, quiet, beauty, and cleanliness of unspoiled natural areas. (Note we're not all hunters, fishers, etc.--some of us just like nature, perhaps also hiking, cross-country skiing, bicycling, i.e., partaking in quiet, non-energy-consuming activities that allow us to revel in nature.) For us, Wisconsin as well as other rural states hold exactly what we want--everything, not nothing.
So those of you who feel Wisconsin (or at least the non-urban regions of Wisconsin) has "nothing"--please stay away from our beautiful state. You won't be happy here and we don't want you here.
