Well, it's officially Sheboygan. The Chicago Co. wasn't ready to make a decission, and they'd been dragging their feet for 2 months to begin with! I'm hoping to start working on Nov 19th. I'm probably going to just rent a room from someone that is looking for a roommate at this time, then I'll find my own place later on. She only requires a 6 month lease anyway. Thanks for all your help!

A Native of Kohler.....I would think renting short-term and then getting a lay of the land would be good. Sounds like your budget for housing will keep you in the better neighborhoods - although, all is relative and the bad ones aren't bad like some places. Just stay away from the Upper apartments in downtown sheboygan, etc around Erie Ave, 7th, etc. You can tell by driving around.
As far as social life. In Kohler there is the Sports Core, which is a very nice athletic Club. The Ymca in Sheboygan is on the Lakefront and nice as well. I am sure there is a volleyball league, etc. If you play softball I am sure your company will recruit you for the summer months. This is a nice way to meet people. With Stefano's et al you found the great places to eat. Some other great places are Lake street Cafe in Elkart Lake, ANY restaurant in Kohler, and there are others in Sheboygan... Check out also the Kohler Arts Center. They have a young group that meets for Friday wine nights and stuff like that...would get you out with a nice professional crowd from various backgrounds and even transplants like yourself. The first year anywhere is tough, but you will grow to love the area. I sure miss it. Good luck! |
