sounds like it if you all stayed home and found something to do besides being the "happy motorists" you would be just fine.... Food for thought

I don't want to sound smug about this, but 11 mph over the limit is quite a lot. Good rule of thumb when away from home is don't speed. If you are not breaking the law they can't ticket you whether they want to or not. I do a lot of traveling in Wisconsin and I've never been ticketed. Slow down and enjoy the scenery. Wisconsin is pretty.

Wisconsin has high taxes, high traffic fines, and low crime....what else are the police supposed to do with all that money? Its simple, they set up shop and wait for the right person to speed by so they can collect more money! Simple...

Illinois police are aggressive, although they have to pick and choose, because the speed limits are too low for driving conditions.
Both Illinois and Wisconsin should raise their limits up to 70, just like Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, and Missouri.
Illinoisians who want to drive should avoid Ohio and Wisconsin, and spend their time, and money, in Indiana and Michigan.

Here is the thing....and this is coming from someone who admittedly has a lead foot. I have paid lots of money to the state of Wisconsin for speeding. There is a slower paced culture in Wisconsin compared to Illinois by far. All this talk about not travelling to Wisconsin because of the cops is rediculous. Here is a fantastic idea.....just don't speed!!! It doesn't matter if you drive in any of the 50 states, if you travel above the speed limit, you are breaking the law and you are at risk for getting a ticket. Simple as that....

I got pulled over once in Sturtevant for doing about 3 mph over. The cop was pretty arrogant, and I assumed it was because of my IL plates. Anyway, he said he was going to give me a ticket because I didn't have my seat belt on. But I did; I had an '80 Ford van and it only had lap belts. He didn't like that too much, so he decided to ask me what I was doing in WI. The first reply that came to mind was some smart-aleck comment about this being the USA, not the USSR, but I told him I was visiting my parents. He seemed surprised and asked where they lived. I told him, "In Racine, where I grew up," emphasizing the last part there. He kind of glared at me, then gave me a warning for speeding. It was so very hard not to smirk, let alone laugh out loud, but I managed to control myself until he got back in his car and drove away.
Living in IL, I learned fast how to drive defensively, and the first time I visited home after mastering this skill, I went somewhere with my sister, who was gripping the dash board with white knuckles and yelling "SLOW DOWN!!" lol ~ yep, it's a balancing act.
I have never been stopped by any other WI cop, but I have by several IL cops and a couple here in AL (headlight out, taillight out). Only once for speeding, in IL, on the interstate at 2 a.m., doing about 20 over (broken spedometer, no kidding, it got to 40 and stopped moving). But when that state trooper found out I worked at the jail he used to work at, he started reminiscing, and even though I was (obviously) in a hurry to get home, I didn't interrupt. Then he got called to an accident, so he gave me a warning for doing 9 over and I was on my way.

"low crime"???? What do you call the Milwaukee area? It's like a mini D.C.
Wisconsin speed limits are already slow and don't have the warnings other states have when the limits drop along the highway. They don't discriminate one way or the other. The WI government is all about raking in the revenue.
Last time I came up through central IL, there was a highway patrol every couple miles. I noticed no one was much over the 65 either. I don't think Wisconsin has a monopoly on this revenue source.
BTW, West Texas has 80 MPH speed limits on the interstates, 75 MPH on the 2 lanes, and they warn well ahead of time when the limit lowers. I still got pulled over for 3 over on the interstate. Its all about revenue.

I frequently drive I-94 from Tomah to Wisconsin Dells or Madison. It's NOT a pleasant drive. Especially with your children in the car. This stretch of the Interstate is nerve racking and dangerous. You can be assured that there will be people driving way too fast, even dangerously so. Yes, when they zoom by, and you look at the license plate, suprise suprise they are from Illinois. This is where F.I.B's originated. The police are not singling out people from Illinois. The fact is people from Illinois drive way too fast. Period! Wow it's just great to use the excuse that your from a big city and everyone drives like that, or you'll never get anywhere if you don't drive fast. Would you please think about others when you use this "excuse". So it's O.K to put my families life at risk because your from a big city and are in a hurry? Gee thanks, Oh Important Ones!
