There is also a pizza place in Milwaukee called Giuseppe's. BTW, speaking of dialects, I'm no Wisconsinite, but I do say "pop" when refering to drinks like Coca-Cola, Sprite, Mountain Dew , IBC root beer, etc. Chalk it up to my Milwaukee-raised father.

How about "bubbler" for "water fountain"? I still can't train myself to saying "water fountain" - it's a mouthful!

This evening some people told me about what seems to be a unique feature of Wisconsin: Al Johnson's Swedish Restaurant in Sister Bay. Apparently, the roof of his restaurant is covered with grass, and for much of the year, he lets goats roam on the roof to munch the grass....? Sounds odd, but internet sources seem to confirm it. I'd have a hard time believing that this sort of thing takes place anywhere else....

Yes, it's true! I went there during one of my many trips to Door County. I always wonder where the idea came from...?

Here is my picture of Al Johnson's restuarant! I thought I had more but this is all I had for digital pictures. I got married 5 1/2 years ago and my husband and I honeymooned in Door County. We got married May 11th so when we were up there, most things were still closed or slow because tourist season hadnt even started! I had the picture labeled "goatless roof"...lol

Thanks so much! Actually, I've been living in VA for 7 years now (and cant wait to move back to WI). We're coming up next summer to visit my family and plan to spend at least a full day or two in DC. Love it up there, especially the cherries and the cherry pie! I also want to take my 2 year old (who will be 3 when we go) to The Farm. I remember going as a kid and loved that place, and funny enough my daughter LOVES cows and farms! I told my husband that is good ol Wisconsin genetics there...lol Thanks for the congrats! Its funny my husband's brother married a WI girl and they moved back to WI 13 years ago (he was from VA) and now I'm getting my husband to move in a few years. They both agree life is so much better up there to raise a family than it is where we are now.
