Agreed on Madison. In Wausau, you're getting the same basic weather and a city that's not that much different in make-up, though there's definitely more shopping/restaurants and things like that.

Default Finally made the move...

We finally made the move to the Wausau area. We found a rental in Merrill just North of Wausau, but we'd like to get closer to Wausau. Does anyone know the best place to rent a home in Wausau? Also, I'm a semi-retired telecom guy and I'm looking for part-time work in the Wausau area. Thanks, Russ

Default Two Nice Cities

I have lived in both Wausau and Stevens Point and both are quality places. I myself prefer Stevens Point, as it is smaller and has a nice size college. Wausau has more to do though, if you want to shop or eat out.
Last frost is usually about mid-May and first frost in the fall about end of September. Both cities are warmer than Ashland and with much less snow.
I also spend a lot of time in Madison, which is a great town but much larger than the other mentioned cities. It is a fun town to visit but way too large to live, at least for me.

Madison is very expensive... Wausau is great, but the seasons are too similar to Ashland.

Janesville? Kenosha? Lacrosse?
