Default College grad job in Beloit

Hey I just got a job in Beloit and was wondering how it was. I want to live in the downtownish area of Beloit or Janesville, I am too lazy to wake up early enough to drive from Madison although I think it would be fun. I am graduating from Michigan State and know nothing about the area other than the day I spent in downtown Beloit. Any suggestions? Thanks

There are some spiffy new condos and apartments downtown and opposite the river so if you are young and single those might be good choices.

Well welcome to the area when ya get here! I live about 15 min from Beloit and a lot of people from my school have Beloit addresses. I live in Orfordville, and itty bitty town NW of there, if ya follow hwy 213 it'll take ya right through Orfordville. It's a nice little quiet village. Good luck with the move, it's pretty nice here, though I'm moving away! haha I'm moving to FL, I'm no winter girl! haha

Hey thanks for the info, I am starting the job in the new year. I saw some of those apartments/condos and no one I talked to knew much about them. I am leaning towards the apartment route, do you know where I can find info on them? I have searched the internet and came up empty so far. Thanks

What about Janesville? I know it is larger than Beloit, does it have a downtownish area, with places to walk to and things to do.

Default Downtown life

I would definitely take downtown Beloit over Janesville, if I were you. Janesville's downtown is larger but there is less to do and is actually kind of scary in places.

There are apartments available in the old Hilton Hotel (444 East Grand) and they are gorgeous, large and quite unique. They include underground parking. There is a sign on the building with contact information or check with the Downtown Beloit web site, they may have some info. Some of the building owners are creating apartments in the second and third floors above the store fronts so there may some choices there, also.

You DEFINITELY will want to be downtown for the things like the Farmer's Market in the summer, HoliDazzle in December and the Film Festival in January. There are also a number of good restaurants, bars and coffee shops al within walking distance.

Enjoy.

Thanks that is good. I saw new apartments/condos on the river as mentioned above, and the ones you are talking about at the old Hilton sound cool. I am not graduating until December and start my job at Kerry pretty soon after the new year. Can you post any info like websites, phone #'s etc. I have looked online and not been able to find anything at all other than a few random complexes. I live in MI and may only be able to go back out there one time before now and then and want to know where to look at. Thanks all for the help

Default Downtown Beloit Apts.

I checked the signs on the building, the Hilton Apartments contact number is 1-800-480-2080 or 1-608-436-0634. These are rentals.

The apartments next to the Beloit Inn are condos for purchase and start around $200,000. Visit the Web site for Hendricks Development Group for more info.

For other apartments in the downtown area, contact the Downtown Beloit Association directly for more information or work through a realtor.

Good Luck.

Thanks for the info, I really do appreciate it. I was also wondering, I was talking to some people at Kerry, where I will be working, and they said some of the younger people live on the Illinois side in Roscoe, towards Rockford. Does anyone know any info about this area, is it good for a 22 year old single guy?

Generally, Roscoe is made up of families living in single family suburban homes. You definately do NOT want to live in Rockford.
