unemployment comp
I'm a little nervous about getting unemployment benefits myself. I was re-structured out of a job on the 9th. I rec''d a check for work up to the 2nd, the 1 wk of severance. I tried to file an initial claim on the internet, but was told I can't I have to call. Now I have to wait until Monday AM and stay and stay on hold all day just to try to file a claim. I'm afraid i will be denied and then i will REALLY be stuck. There is no vailid reason for denial that I can see, but knowing the "Great State of Wisconsin" they may try to find one. This state is a model of inefficiency and idiocy. People can "rip off" the system left and right here, but a legit claim gets held up or denied THIS STATE SUCKS!!!!

You wanna see a state that sucks, move to Virginia when you see section 8 people living off the government, having their rent paid for, food paid for, kids paid for, and yet they are driving Cadillac Escalades and Navigators. Yeah that is a state that sucks! Not to mention we have a food tax on all groceries and I have to pay a property tax just to own my 2 vehicles and camping trailer....TWICE A YEAR...June and December and its $400 a pop. Not to mention the city sticker that I have to put on my car every year for $30 (oh yeah that's 2 vehicles and a camper) and also the state inspection I have to get for all of those as well, $10 a piece. I cant wait to move back to WI!
My mom and I both have had to collect unemployment from WI and yeah it sucks and no system is perfect. Good luck hope you get it...I'm just trying to show you that no state is perfect.

We have filed for unemployment benefits in two other states and never had a problem until we had to file for it in Wisconsin. I have never seen such a messed up system. It took five weeks to get the unemployment started because they had "questions" and had to interview my husband's former employer and so forth. We just about starved to death as we had no income during those five weeks and a family to feed. The only blessing is that we were able to get medical cards but those are even difficult to use as the state puts every medical card user into an HMO and you have to figure out who is in your network and who isn't. Its a big mess.
My husband has been out of work for nearly five months now and we are starting to worry since unemployment runs out at 6 months. We have both looked very aggressively for jobs but we have found that for every job we apply, it seems a hundred other people also apply. There is just too much competition for jobs here and the cost of living is too high to make it on low paying jobs. I don't have much nice to say about the state of Wisconsin (or the technical college system) at this point.

If you were unemployed due to lack of work, downsizing, whatever, you won't get denied.

THANK YOU VERY MUCH... having lived in Virginia, I can also say that this post is absolutely accurate. Section 8 properties were full of Navigators and Escalades. No joke. Wisconsin is OK in my book.

Tough Times
I filed for unemployment in NC on June 6 and its now July 31. My claim was processed but there was a question of my eligibility. This required a review and its now been almost 2 months and no word even though they said it would be no more than 6 weeks at the absolute longest. I have never filed for UE before, but how can people do this with these long waits? I have burned through the last of my savings and have no idea what I am going to do.

ceilings too low as well
Filing for unemployment is miserable no matter what. Unfortunately what makes it worse here is the low maximum they have on benefits. It's only $355 per week. That's not much when there is one main breadwinner in a family. It's hard enough to find a job with a decent salary in this state, it's even harder when you lose that good job and have to try to get by until finding another one.
I know Minnesota's cap is considerably higher. We've been fortunate enough to still be able to file from working there previously. Until it runs out.

You are quite a model of positivity.
Take the rope from around your neck and climb down off the chair.
You have not even talked to them, yet you are sure it will go badly.
A few months back, I went on umemployment for the first time in my life and was surprised how easy the whole process was. Sure, I had to actually talk to a human being and not just type in information but somehow I survived it.
It did not take all day either.
After that, it was all done by phone to an automated system and my check was deposited that day or the next.
Why dont you calm down and see what happens before shouting doom and gloom.
Geesh.
Although i do agree this state sucks, but for different reasons.
