We moved to Wisconsin in 1999, after 18 years in extreme South Texas and a quarter of a century before that in Michigan, and we love it here. Y'all are stuck with us; we'll never leave.
That said, our children, who are native Texans (but otherwise quite nice people), both talk of moving elsewhere. They like Wisconsin, but they don't have the sense of affinity and homecoming that their parents do. And neither one of them has gotten used to winters here, even after 8 years.
An awful lot of what feels right and homelike to a person has to do with the cultural norms and expectations with which they grew up. My spouse and I grew up in the Midwest, and even after almost two decades in Texas, still did not feel at home there. Our kids, although they had Midwestern parents, grew up in a region that was enormously different from this part of the country, and although neither really wants to move back to the Rio Grande Valley, Wisconsin just doesn't resonate with them to the degree that it does for us.
I do have to say that if we had moved here straight from Michigan, without the intervening years in Texas, we very likely would not have appreciated Wisconsin's charms to the degree we currently do. There is nothing like living in a region with a nearly 50% illiteracy rate, 18% unemployment and the lowest per-capita income in the entire country (to say nothing of snakes, scorpions, cactus and hurricanes) to give one a deep and abiding appreciation for all things Midwestern.

Well, I never had the choice in the matter of moving to WI because I was still a kid. I am originally from Indiana and my parents worked for GM down in Fort Wayne and then took a byout and came here because they were from here, however, my own family is always making comments like "hoosier" and such. Though Indiana is not much different from WI anyway, just flatter. I don't really like either state though haha the people are great up in in WI, but I'm such a wimp in the cold! haha I am moving to Florida in 2 months though, so I'll fit in there for the weather

I was born and raised here- I blame my parents Sure wish they chose another place to call home- This state has got to be one of the worst places to live- I cannot wait to get out.

I moved from Illinois to Wisconsin recently and I really like it! I don't think you'll see drastic differences between Iowa and Wisconsin. I've been in Iowa alot as my sister and brother-in-law have lived in various areas of the state and I think you'll be fine in Wisconsin.

We love it. We have lived in a number of places and WI wins for its friendly people. It is a great place to raise a family.
