The heat or the humidity?
Wisconsin has similar humidity levels to the south. Compare Madison to Atlanta the last month in the links below. Summers are no picnic in Wi.

Also, Milwaukee has the highest afternoon humidity in the country.

Most Humid Cities in USA - Current Results
You'll notice that every city listed for afternoon humidity is right on a sea or ocean. You'll also notice that these cities are far cooler in the summer than just a few miles inland, where it is less humid. Milwaukee's heat/humidity levels in the summer are amongst the lowest in the entire country for a major metro. Often there has been a 15-20 degree difference between Waukesha County (the hottest in the state) and areas near the Milwaukee waterfront this spring (as every year). Currently it's only 8 degrees, but neither area has hit 64 degrees yet.

It is currently 64 degrees and cloudy (83% humidity) at my house by the Lake, and 85 and sunny (64% humidity) at work 15 miles inland. High humidity by the lake, but only 64 degrees; lower humidity inland, 85 degrees. Check it out if you're online this afternoon.

I love living near the lake, yes its cooler and a lot more foggier than inland but winter it's warmer and sometimes when it's snowing in Ocnomowoc it's raining right next to the lake. It's like San Fran temps during the spring and early summer.

for me i dont always look at the % humidity but the dew point. When it's well in into the 70's or higher, that makes for one sticky afternoon/night. While we are up visiting in Madison this week, it's been a little muggy but nothing oppressive yet. Of course it's all relative, as I overheard someone yesterday state it was ungodly hot. Where back home for us we've already had near 50 days in the 90's and tapped 100, I would have only admitted to it being warm lol.
Guess i better get ready to flick that southern/northern switch, as when we do move back up here i have to remember that winter is winter, not what the south considers an arctic blast (you know, lows in the teens....above zero).

The humidity where I live in Northern Wisconsin can be awful. Up here, many people do not have central air conditioning as we have such a short summer. I lived in the deep South much of my life, and the humidity around here can be as bad as in the deep South...only the temperatures are higher down South.

I'm looking to move to the Midwest. I LOVE the Midwest. I'm coming from PA and people talk about the humidity. When I was in Green Bay and Milwaukee, I didn't think it was humid at all. A little hot, but nothing compared to where I live in PA.

The Texas or Arizona sun beating down on you every day and relentless heat can get to you just as bad as constant gray skies.

I have lived in the South, the Southeast, the Southwest, the Midwest, and the West.

Worst humidity I have ever felt is a strip from about Charleston, SC up through Indiana and Iowa. Think of a zone from Florida to the Corn Belt, basically the Southeast quarter of the USA.

Anything west or north of that, and it gets better in a hurry.

Thats why we're going to N. Wis. You're right about the humidity. We lived in NC. Horrible humidity. Ditto Ill and Indiana.
