HI everyone,

This is my first post

How is the Wisconsin Tech ( Network, systems administration) sector in terms of job opportunities ?

We currently live in a Suburb of Chicago and my girlfriend wants to move to Milwaukee or Madison because of the high cost of living, Traffic, and lack of outdoor activities in Illinois. She is a Nurse so she wont have any trouble finding a job. I just Graduated college with a B.S tech degree and I am finding a lack of opportunities on the job boards in Wisconsin.

I understand that Chicago has more opportunities but does it equal out because more people are applying for those position here ?

I just feel like moving to Wisconsin would be a death sentence to my career.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

It won't necessarily be a "death sentence" for your career but the opportunities will be more sparse than what they would be in Chicago. I live in the Fox Valley and it is tough to find jobs in Tech. This is part of the reason as to why I am planning a move to Houston in about 3 years.

Depends on what you look at as a death sentence. Your wage will not be as high in Madison as Chicago but you will definitely find a job if you have tech skills. What you want to look at, IMO, is the quality of life. Madison is a wonderful place to live and I would go back there in a minute.

There will be a job available in those areas here and there, but not many options will come up during any given year. Not much of a demand for that in Wisconsin.
