Thanks for asking alle! No, we are moving at the end of May. We found a place to rent on St.clair st off of 11th so we can save up money before we buy.

Do you have any suggestions for restaurants? Also, do you know if the YMCA has childcare? I am excited and scared to move!!!

Hi! Yes, the YMCA has childcare & also has 4K classes there. What type of restaurants are you interested in? Manty is big on fast food places but nothing especially high end if that's what you're looking for. We have some chains-Perkins, Applebees, Charcoal Grill, Friar Tuck's (a favorite of ours). N. 11th & St. Clair will be a good location.

A short walk from your house is Maretti's, a nice place for good Italian.
My 2 favorites for fine dining would be Al Corso's in Collins, or Christopher's in Branch. Friday night fish fries are popular here and everywhere. My favorite is at Port Sandy Bay.

And welcome to our area!!!

what surprised me about manitowoc is all the younger people running along the bike path along lake michigan. i guess i was jaded by all the bad comments from people about most of the places in wisconsin and wisconsin in general.

hope you enjoy your stay and smart move to rent first until you get the lay of the land.
personally i wouldn't have minded moving there as the lakefront is a nice climate.

Moving is a huge deal, and we are planning on making our next move one where we "settle". I am somewhat nervous about moving to a smaller town, but know I will be happy if I live in a place with things to do. To me, that means, areas to enjoy nature (hiking, snowshoeing, xx skiing), places to have date nights (restaurants, bars...hopefully with good IPA's ), and things to do with my kids. I also would hope to have opportunities to make friends with other moms. Are the schools good there?

I have enjoyed living next to Lake Superior and the friendly folk here, but darn are the winters long in Duluth. There are also some rough areas here, not that it affects me personally, but I am used to nice clean neighborhoods. Any neighborhoods to stay clear of? I have been looking at houses, privacy, nice sized lot, and good "walking neighborhoods are important. Are the inland lakes nice?

I would really appreciate any input.

I would avoid buying/renting anywhere along marshall, hamilton, and a little to south of those areas Other then that I don't mind it in manitowoc. If you need to know what apts/houses to avoid renting from, I can help you avoid some of them.

Thanks for the feedback! We will definitely try out the restaurants suggested. Alle, my husband and I like low key local restaurants. Fine dining can wait until we have a date night in Milwaukee or Door County. I have looked on yelp and it seems like Manitowoc will have some cool local restaurants. I also read that somewhere there might be 50 cent ice cream cones, so we will be in heaven!
