This may sound like a weird question, but here it goes. I'm contemplating a move to Wisconsin and was wondering if you could tell me of some small to mid size towns (< 30,000) that are set near corn fields? I grew up in the prairies of SW Minnesota and just have a soft spot in my heart for living near a landscape with abundant cornfields. I'm in Texas now but am eagerly planning my move back up north to Wisconsin.

Thanks so much for any feedback you can provide!

Most all in the southern half. Though some parts will be soy.

Viroqua... just throwing one out there. They're all over.

Everywhere south of Highway 8 and not in the middle of a city.

Thanks for the feedback. I figure pretty much anywhere in the southern part of the state would be a good bet. Could you give me any advice as far as the cities of Platteville or Monroe?

Barron County, about an hour's drive north of Eau Claire has the best of both worlds: Its biggest city is Rice Lake w a population of about 8,400. Lots of cornfields around, but theres added feature of the Northwoods start in northern part of the county & the Blue Hills are in its eastern area. One can ski there.

Oh, and Highway 8 runs right across Barron County and there ARE cornfields north of it! Cornfields definitely fade & woods take over when one travels to next county north of Barron County -- Washburn County.

It's just that Highway 8 is the unofficial line between the northwoods and the southern half and just a good *general* rule. I love the Rice Lake area, too, but it is more cornfields and wood lots. If the OP is missing SW Minnesota, he may want larger fields and less woods.

Platteville and Monroe are both among rolling hills and corn fields. Plateville has the university and is farther from Madison while Monroe is closer to larger cities (Madison, Rockford, Janesville and Beloit) so you have better access to schools, shopping and health care. Both communities are decent, typical small Wisconsin cities or large towns, depending on your point of view.
