I'm burnt out living in the Madison area. Lived here all my life except for one year I lived in Traverse City, MI. Can anyone enlighten me as to the job market, renting apartments, cost of living, health care availibility, gas prices, avalibility to shopping at say a Macey's, Boston Store, Target in Durango, CO., etc? I'm 60 yrs. old, will need to work and I'm on a fact finding mission. Any thoughts on this escapade? I'm really on the fence about moving to Durango & would like some thoughts about living there or will I be out in the boonies?

It's usually best to post in the forum of the place you're moving to instead of moving from. Surely you'll get better feedback about Durango in the Colorado forum than you will here in the Wisconsin forum.

Visit there first.

colorado is flooded with illegals, so:
cost of living high
wages low
potential to be victim of crime as govt has a 'catch and release' policy for mexicans

the four corners area is like most of mountain towns in co--a tourist place and a place where rich people have second homes. everyone else is either mexcians or low wage americans serving them.

Durango has Wal-Mart, JC Penneys (very small), TJ Maxx and Bed, Bath and Beyond. The closest Macys is hundreds of miles away. Health care is good in Durango, especially orthopedics. The cost of the living is pretty high (gas, groceries etc). A very small, older house in Durango will cost in the high 300's to mid 400's. Rentals are very high since it is a college town.
