Otherwise, they will be polite and talkative, but never invite your family to anything. It is true, ask anyone who has tried to belong in one of these small towns. I've heard so many stories of people being shut out because they are strangers.

I read something similar to what I am writing 6 years ago, before we moved here, and I thought it must not be true. IT IS TRUE. As soon as my youngest graduates, we are out of here. I wish I had taken the forums seriously.
I'm sorry that has been your experience here! I'm one of those fourth generation Wisconsinite (Milwaukeean, actually) , but do think it must be different depending on where in Wisconsin you are. I moved to the Madison area and had no trouble building a new social circle. I happen to live in an area where there are a lot of transplants from around the state and region, and a fair number from farther away. That might make it a bit easier than moving into one of the small towns that no one really moves to.

Nope, still in Pennsylvania and looking to move abroad actually. I rejoined a faith that most likely won't be welcomed in Wisconsin since it's not really welcomed in the US in general. With that said, I decided I would go where I'd be more welcomed, where there are other jobs, and I can get around as a non-driver. So, I am working full time and part time, saving money and will be looking into programs abroad that match my skill set (English degree, writing specifically, with experience in library, social media, office, clerical and some foreign language skills).

Thanks. As much as I love the Green Bay Packers, I don't think I could really live in Wisconsin. Getting a job, getting around, and feeling welcomed as I am are all very important to me. Although one of my family members is trying to rush me out, I am taking my time and saving.
