You'd think you'd be able to find a way to get a legit job instead of this one, at least. Must be the nitrates!

What precipitated my rant over D3 is that I had lab work done here in depressingly bleak cloudy Wisconsin and my vitamin D
was 1/2 normal and thats after taking 2000 IU''s of D3 from
Swanson ,but I spoke with my buddy in Milwaukee and he takes
5000 IU's daily and his lab came back just at normal. There either is something in the water here that so many folks are turn ing into quasi- moto's, neurologically toast and preculiar? It's
a joke ! I'm kidding hellloooo! wow.

I always take extra Vitamin D in Winter as it gives me more energy. The sun angle is very agreeable to me for the remainder of the year. The southern US has a sun angle that is far too harsh and blinding for me as I have find that I am more sensitive to sunlight as I get older. Most European countries are at a much higher latitude than the US and do have far less total sunlight hours. The Southern US, on the other hand, has latitudes comparable to the Middle East and North Africa.

I take vitamin D in fall & winter. My employer, Aurora healthcare did some research on it, & determined it was a cost effective measure to give employees free vitamin D in order to decrease employee absenteeism due to illness. From 2008, but likely still applicable.

I like to check the Wisconsin forum every once in a while just to make sure no one is complaining about lack of sunshine. Try living in Michigan and then we'll see if you still complain about lack of sunshine in Wisconsin. My dad just moved over there and he has commented about how many bright and sunny days he gets compared to what he is used to. I guess it is all a matter of perspective!

^ True, though that grey over Milwaukee should really be cities along Lake Michigan, an area about as cloudy as Michigan. Outside that strip and up near Lake Superior, truth.

I now recommend 2000 -3000 IU's for adults of D3 my original
and 500- 1000 I U's children 500 for toddlers (crushed to avoid choking). My earlier suggestions were too low based on new
info from experts. Some people take 5000-6000 IU's but at that
level i'd recommend lab work .

From what I've read, researchers disagree on the exact vitamin D level needed. Awhile ago (& some still hold to this view) they believed that you needed megadoses or it won't have any effect. Now some researchers are saying that high doses can cause kidney stones & calcification of arteries leading to cardiovascular problems.

Personally, I try to stick with a low to moderate amount. The last thing I want is a kidney stone.
