That's why I used it in my example. I moved to WI in 1995 from Illinois and there were some interesting responses (see my "what high school did you go to" thread somewhere). People treat Illinois as if it's a different continent.

spieker is on a distinguished road
I love in the state of Washington now but was born and raised in WI. I'm planning on moving back but am a bit worried. I've been gone 18 years. I forgot that thing about how few people have ever been anywhere, which sometimes makes them narrower minded. Darn.

I know we often spoke of the lack of culture (especially after we had left, my friends and I) in the town we lived in. Now I wonder if that might be true in many more places then I suspected. Of course I am aware that more rural areas will have a lot less to 0 cultural things going on.

I must have left before Blue Moon ice cream. Never heard of it. I crave good brats and hard rolls. They don't know anything about hard rolls out here. Even what they call a hard roll is a soft roll really. I miss fish fry's. When I was there they didn't particularly mean anything to me, but you don't get much lake fish out here. I suppose when I move I will miss salmon.

This is a great thread to read. Thanks to everyone!

Talking Good Food

When I lived in central MN it was very hard to find a halfway decent pizza or a good restaurant at all. The food was all very bland. Once we tried to find a fish fry during lent. After balking at all the long lines, we finally waited over half and hour at a Country Kitchen of all places! Nobody seems to know how to cook over there like we do in Wisconsin. All varieties of food can be found here and much of it is quite good.

I too am a FIB (believe me, I have been called worse..) I was born and raised in Illinois and once again live in Illinois. However, I also spent 8 years in Wisconsin (Door County, Green Bay, and Madison). I would say that the dirvers are OK, the roads could be better, the weather is horrid, and the accent can be a little over the top at times (think Fargo - gol dernit, a deal's a deal aye...). But seriously. I met some of the best people ever there and had many of the best times of my life there. As you might imagine, I even became a die hard Packers fan. I love going back up to WI and, in fact, just got back from GB, which is currently buried under about 2 feet of snow. Despite the fact that I could have been in the sun in Florida instead, I had a great time in GB like always. Generally, most Wisconsinites I have met have been educated, open-minded people who love to have a good time. Its the people that make WI one of the greatest states in the US. Fellow green and gold fans - The Pack will be back next year and so?

Just moved here from California and I LOVE Taco Johns!!! Culvers rocks as well, but the other post is right about the chicken dinners, there is always a pause when ordering and at times some odd excuse of why it is not available. Wish they would do a butter-turkey meat burger

I do think wisconsin is a great place to live, but as far as west bend goes:it is growing. More and more people from milwaukee are moving here, so the days of leaving homes and vehicles unlocked are long gone. There is no public transportation after about 9:30 pm. while taverns are open until 2-2:30 am. And the justice system in washington county is beyond corrupt.

I like Wisconsin drivers. I just got back from vacation in San Diego and am happy to leave aggressive drivers and poorly marked highways behind. Trying to get on the 78 in Escondido- forget it, there are no signs so if you don't know where you are going you won't find it.
I live in Stevens Point where a traffic jam is 10 cars.
FIB is Friendly Illinois Buddy right?
I wish Culvers would bring back the chili bread bowl- it seems to have vanished.

We called them "cannibal sandwiches". I haven't had one in a few years but it was a regular staple at company parties. Rye bread, raw beef, big round slices of onions, salt and pepper,
