Beaver Dam
We're considering a move to that area due to a job thing. We're not happy about it because we're in LaCrosse/Onalaska and we love it here right now. But we might HAVE to move. And after reading some of the threads we're basically ruling out Fond du Lac, especially due to its water problem and high cost of living. But how about Beaver Dam? Can anyone tell me more about it?
Crime rate? Racial tension/discrimination? Culture in general? Schools (kids are currently in Pre-K and 1st)? Grocery shopping? Thanks!

Beaver Dam
I am a transplant from Madison and live just North of Beaver Dam. We are very happy with the schools, cultural, religious, social and shopping opportunities here. We are also getting a new YMCA. Hwy 151 to Fond du Lac was recently expanded, so the commute is better. If you are looking for a town closer to Fond du Lac, check out Waupun. It's smaller than Beaver Dam, but a friendly community on Hwy 151.

We just came back from the interview and spent some time driving around all the surrounding area. We changed our minds about Fond du Lac, and now it's out primary location. Beaver Dam and Waupun are very small, relatively dumpy, and does not feel progressive enough for us. Had we been a small town typical white family then we would fit in a little more I think, but FDL feels like it's more our speed - civilization!!
Thanks for all your feedback though.

I'm going to be working in Beaver Dam in another month or so. I wasn't too impressed. Of course, being a younger person (27 to be exact) I decided to move closer to Madison (not that far from Beaver Dam, yet a lot more to do.)

SORRY--to hear that you have to leave La Crosse--by far the most beautifull city in the state. I have been to Beaver Dam-Didn't think the place was that bad!! Maybe check out Waupun and Mayville. Fond Du Lac never impressed me much. Good Luck!!

Mayville's good, nice small town, but has had some growth in recent years (good friends of the family live there); if you're still looking for someplace, try Appleton or Oshkosh over FdL, or you could do West Bend/Washington County.
