Default Possibly moving to SE WI

Well, I'm seriously looking at a move to the SE area of WI. My question is about guns. I have a small arsenal and would like to know what are laws to be concerned about. I have heard rumor of a "pistol license" and that is the only way you can purchase ammo. Is this the case?

Well, I sure don't, but the spouse has a small arsenal of his own and tries to be an informed gun-owner, so I forwarded your query to him for his opinion. Please note that neither of us is an expert in this area, and you'd probably be best off consulting the Wisconsin DNR for a definitive answer, but this is one amateur's response to your question:

There is no state requirement for a pistol license. Wisconisin is one of two
states (Illinois is the other) that categorically bans concealed carry licenses.
Local laws vary in Wisconsin. You may want to check with the PD in the area
where you are thinking of settling. We live in Madison which bans the sale of
pistols within city limits. I don't recall ever seeing pistol ammunition for
sale. I generally drive a drive a couple of miles to the next town over to
purchase ammunition. Depending on where you settle, you may find your biggest
difficulty is finding a place to shoot.

Hope that helps; good luck.

I live in Kenosha and know there is no pistol license needed were i purchase ammo. No additional laws on weapons that I know of other then federal laws. I own three hand guns, a rifle, shotgun, and AR. All bought within the city limits of Kenosha legally. Only exception is there is no concealed weapon carry. It's been proposed a couple of times and lost by a narrow vote the last time. I'm pretty sure however that the city of Milwaukee and Madison have restrictions on weapons so that's something you might want to look into. As far as shooting there are a couple places that I know of in my area. Shooters on six mile in Racine county is one of them(pistol and archery only). Also CCKC in Kenosha county has pistol, rifle, and archery ranges.
