Hey crew,

I have a Wisconsin driver's license that is going to expire in October, so obviously I'm gonna need to renew that. In August, however, I'm moving out of state, but not permanently (at the moment). I'll be there for two years, and I'll be staying on campus. Should I renew my license prior to leaving, or should I get it there? I guess the only reason I'm slightly confused is that the address I'd supply there isn't necessarily "my own place" so to speak - does that matter? I just want to make sure. And yes, this is my first time renewing my license
Thanks!

Jake

seems to me you will be a resident of another state for 2 years so would need to follow that state's licensing guidelines (i could of course be wrong there).
Guess i'd maybe suggest checking with the school you will be going to and see how other students from out of state handle this type of need. I'd also look into your insurance coverage as some states require proof of insurance not only with the car itself but potentially needed to show proof to get your license

If you're just going out of state during the school year, keep your license in Wisconsin.

Students are allowed to go to school with license or ID showing home of record. Your choice. If you are going to own a vehicle at the time, legally at least two of the three (registration, insurance, and license) need to match.

Thanks for the replies, guys. I do not have intentions of leaving during the summer/ J term, since they allow students to remain on campus and the cost of the flights back and forth would be much more than I'd be willing to pay.
