I have looked at land from Bloomer to Sparta. I'd assume since Eau Claire is a fairly large town there are a lot of jobs there. I don't mind a 50 mile commute one way as long as where I live is nice and secluded in the woods. I have noticed many lakes in Chippewa County. I am a avid Crappie fisherman so that is a plus. However, are these lakes still secluded? Or have they been urbanized by high end resorts? I love a nice quite lake. Lastly, what area of western Wisconsin would you say is the best from Lake Superior to Illinois? I am not set on one spot yet so some feedback from locals would be great. Thanks.

As long as your not looking to come here and become a "tree hugger" there are lots of areas in Wisconsin to be in....When I say "tree hugger" dont get me wrong - recycling, saving the environment, etc is a GOOD thing, but the biggest problem we're having here is Wisconsin is rich, hoity toities coming in buying land NEVER actually coming here (they are too busy with their lives in New York, or California) and then HOWLING to our govt officials how it's TERRIBLE to hunt deer, bear, etc and that we must "save" them ALL. They have no clue what it's like to have almost a million deer out on the roads hitting them with your car (sometimes 2/3 a year) - the insurance costs, the damage to property, etc. Or having a bear tearing apart your camper to get a "snack" or a pack of wolves running through your back yard and eating your pet dog.
What has happened in Wisconsin over the years is that because of these "do-gooders" the populations have risen to extreme levels and they (such as wolves) have resorted to eating the family pet (and I love wolves btw and believe they belong to part of our eco system here in Wisconsin) but they do this because they are starving and over populated. They will eventually with the over-crowding and over population is start spreading disease. Not only to themselves and there will be deer laying around all over - but to people as well.
I do not believe we should kill all them off because people want to be here but there needs to be a balance and when you have people hollaring who dont even have to live here "save them - all of them" it causes an even more strain on the environment and on the people in general.
Soooooooo if your looking to buy land, clean up after yourself (that's a whole nother story to tell after living in Wisconsin for all of my life...), live in harmony with the nature here and not try to save every creature that should belong in a life cycle like the rest of us and can adapt to hunting and fishing and live with the fact that it has to happen to balance nature then come on over....we'd love to have ya!
