Illinois people in Wisconsin
I live in Illinois. I used to live in a small town, but now I don't. I didn't move, all the Chicago people came here. The come in and take over everything, big stores and traffic are now everywhere. I don't want to be thought of the same way, but I want to move to Wisconsin. I'm thinking of Osseo. I feel I will fit in. I'm the guy in the neighborhood who fixes everyones mowers and snowblowers, and can be counted on to fix cars. I want to go to friday night fish fry. I want to learn to play Euchre and Sheepshead. I don't want big stores near me, I'm happy buying my clothes at Fleet Farm. So...will I be automatically hated for being from Illinois, or do small town Wisconsonites wait and see if your just another F.I.B.?

I lived in Chicago until I was 30 and then we moved to small town WI. We never had a problem. A lot has to do with your attitude. We were willing to adapt to our new area and didn't expect them to adapt to us.

A good friend of mine moved from Chicago to suburban Green Bay and loves it. Has adapted really well, made friends, is raising a family there. She loves it. Go for it.

Whether or not you fit into a new place depends a whole lot more on you than it does on your new neighbors. If you come in expecting everyone to be rude and condescending, they probably will be. If you arrive expecting a warm welcome and friendly responses, that's very likely exactly what you'll find.
Your description of yourself sounds like you're the quintessential small-town good neighbor, and folks like that are generally made very welcome indeed, no matter where they are from originally. Switch out those Illinois plates on your car for Wisconsin ones, and you'll be assimilated before you know it!

I will point out that you will find quite a bit of "urban money" in the northwoods in a few select areas. Some counties would include: Vilas and Oneida. I think that that has already been mentioned in this forum.
However, you sound like you would fit in quite well in rural Wisconsin.

Go for it! I moved from Northeast Illinois last fall and I'm loving it! I've found the Two Rivers/Manitowoc area to be great and so far the people are friendly, not overly so but no one has been rude. I've run into others from Illinois who moved recently and they have no complaints either. I think your outlook is great!

Osseo has more cliques sp? in it for a small town than usual. But as far as being a FIB would not worry to much. Us up North handle FIB's and MUD DUCK's pretty well.
If Norwegian decent really be home in Osseo.
