Politics aside, this will be great for the city and I as a "1950's Republican" welcome all Democrats to our fine city! Anytime you can land a yuge event it's great for the city unless it's the Olympics

Sorry to hear what, that we’re hosting the 2020 DNC convention? Why would you be sorry? It’s great news for our city.

Why are the Olympics a problem?

Just google why the Olympics suck for your city, basically it bankrupts your city and leave with huge costs and stadiums and infrastructure that never gets used. There have been many stories and study's on the actual loss your city or state or country has due to hosting the Olympics.

Look at China for a recent example of what a boondoggle Olympics are generally.

Even with arguably slave labor conditions in some cases, many of the structures (including those hastily constructed) are already abandoned.

Uhhhh, you're wrong. Former Salt Lake City/County resident here. Once Salt Lake got the bid - money flowed in for light rail and a complete overhaul of the I-15 corridor. Speedskating facility went up in Kearns, Utah and now is state of the art. Olympic Park in Park City regularly hosts ski jumping competitions as Park City resorts/Deer Valley also hosts international downhill racing.

Many of the facilities used were already pre-established - like the stadium at the University of Utah.

It did raise home prices and a lot of people moved in...... but it was an economic engine for the area.

It's not all bad news.

If you actually do the research <ahem> you quickly realize that SLC is generally an outlier.
