Default Moving to Waukesha County

My family and I are going to be moving to Waukesha County early next year. We have checked out a couple of towns like Eagle and North Prairie. I am just looking for other peoples opinions on where a good palce to live around that area may be. Thanks.

My family and I lived in Hartland for 20 years. We moved to N.C. about eight years ago, and although I'm an N.C. native, I MISS HARTLAND! I loved the tiny village, despite having very little shopping or entertainment. I could drive for 15 minutes, however, and find everything I wanted. The people are friendly, the schools are excellent. It was so peaceful to come home in the evening and feel like I'd left the world behind. I knew my children were growing up in a safe neighborhood. As I said, we've been gone for a few years, but when we were there I never locked my house or my car, and never had any problems. That may not be true now, but I have to believe Hartland has not changed in a major way since we left.

Drive around in Hartland and look for yourself. If you have children, check out the schools. Taxes are even reasonable, for Wisconsin. I think you'd really like it.

Good luck!

Eagle and North Prairie are very rural if that is what you are looking for. You might want to check out Delafield, Pewaukee, Oconomowoc and Hartland. The schools vary. I would bypass the Hartland lakeside school district. Do you have any children? Arrowhead high school is huge, but has a good reputation.

We had no problems with Hartland-Lakeside. Both our sons also graduated Arrowhead and scored in the top 2 percent of ACTs and SATs in the nation. One decided on Duke; the other went to Princeton.

Arrowhead is a great school. I just think for elementary that Lake Country, Swallow and almost all the others that feed into Arrowhead are better choices than Hartland-Lakeside, as they have smaller classes and better test scores. Then again we did not like Hartland South compared to the district we moved from in Ohio, so that makes me biased. Alot of my neighbors open enroll at the other schools(which you are allowed to do in Wisconsin)

We have three children; 11yrs, 9yrs, and 8 months. We homeschool, so schools are not a real issue. Just don't want to move into a bad area. We have looked at some homes in Eagle, and it seems like a nice place. How about Waukesha? How is that city.

I grew up in Brookfield, WI. I don't recommend it unless you enjoy snob appeal. My father earned over $150,000/ year when I was in late high school, and I thought my family lived in the "slums." Waukesha itself is a nice city with good schools. Another nice community, although it is in Milwaukee County, is Wauwatosa.

Default Waukesha

Downtown Waukesha is becoming a quaint little town. They have art fairs, block parties etc.

The taxes are very high in the City of Waukesha due to the building of West High School.

Waukesha County over all their taxes are high. I lived in New Berlin for 20 years, and only moved recently due to my job being relocated.

You might want to check out Oconomowoc. It is a nice little town and still fairly rural.
