Driving to fast, should we call police?
We have been having problems on our normally nice and respectful street with one person driving way over 50 mph on our street that is 25miles per hour. Everyone on our street has a dog(s) or children that like to walk and ride their bikes a lot. This certain someone in a big black tahoe drives with no regards to anyone or anything. I was walking my dog and he blew by me so fast I yelled Slow Down at him but he couldn't hear he was going so fast. I want to know if I should just start calling the police every time he speeds past me and my dog and kid or should I write him a letter first? Should I give him the respect that he doesn't give us or my neighbors?

I wouldn't write a letter I'd go with telling the police to see if they can do some extra patroling in your area.
We have that issue on our street and I notice the police have been around more lately. They took out a stop sign and the situation is a little crazy later in the day when there is a shift change at the nursing home or other people coming home from work.

Not knowing your relationship with your neighbor - maybe one doesn't exist anyway - I'm not sure if striking up a conversation (with mouth or letter) would work. However, rather than try that route or get the message to the fast-driver through another neighbor doesn't end the problem immediately - which sounds like is paramount.
If you know the basic time Speed Racer is coming through, I guess I would contact the police and have them lying in wait. Sounds terrible, but the potential for worse is there isn't it.

If you send a letter you'll just **** the guy off and that won't make him slow down. I would definitely call the police and make a complaint. There isn't much they can do really; If you take down the license plate they might knock on the guy's door and give him a talking to. And if you want ask to remain anonymous.

Does it happen about the same time each time it happens? If so, it should be fairly easy for the police to be waiting.

We've had that same problem on our normally quiet street. The past couple of days a cruiser has been parked around the corner and he's nailed several people. It does help eventually as people get the message when it hits them in the wallet.

See if there is a hotline to report speeders. Otherwise it can't hurt to inform the police. We've been having the same problem in our neighborhood with speeders and people blowing the stop sign at the end of the road. Incidently, where I live it is a $160 ticket if you get caught blowing a stop sign. Neighbors have petitioned to have signs erected saying "Slow Children Present". It might help but it won't stop everyone.

In situations like this, a 6 by 6 timber laying across the road should slow him down.
I think it is fair to consider the police to be your friend here. They have to deal with the consequences of residential speeding among children and pets. I think calling this one in is the right thing to do. Respect for the driver is not the point. Saving children and pets is.

Do you know anyone with a baseball speed radar thing? You could record his speed on that with a videotaping of the car driving down the road, get his license plate and report it to the police.
I know in one neighborhood we lived in we had a similar problem and the police set up a speed trap.
