DH and I lived in Wisconsin our entire lives. Moved for his job promotion. I never knew how hard it would be to move back HOME! We miss Wisconsin. It's 4 hours away and even though it's an easy drive, it's not like a 2 hour drive where we could do a one day trip. Thankfully DH does have business meetings in Appleton(the main hub of his company is there). I always go back with him so I can see family and friends. We envy all who are there and those that move away and manage to be able to move back.

Madcitygirl is on a distinguished road
We just returned to WI, I'm from Madison and hubby from Milwaukee, and it feels soooooo good to be back. Although we're from two very different cities, our childhoods had the same great WI experiences.

We had moved to the QCA in IL, then to Lemont (suburb of Chicago), and finally we're back. I loved being in the Chicago area, and they love Wisconsinites, but there is nothing like being home.

I have to agree that we are a bit stand-off'ish, but we do help out our neighbors. I remember in '90 we got 17 inches of snow in one day while I was 8 mos pregnant. The people at our apartment complex after 2 days stranded all got together and cleared out the parking lots (my car first because they were afraid of me going into labor, I didn't though) so we could all get out!

Yes, Madison and Milwaukee are the "democratic" areas of the state, and the rest is republican, it's always a close race here. But people get really worked up about politics here and I think WI has a very good turnout for voting.

There is culture here though. I remember when my sister got into salsa dancing and took me to a salsa dancing club right on State St in Madison, I would've never known it was there! And we went to Syttend Mai in Stoughton one year, I've never seen so many blondes in my life (I'm half Japanese).

My favorite WI thing? Supper Clubs, I can't wait to get to one for a nice Old Fashion and fish fry!

Just wanted to say to the OP, thanks for posting a positive, optimistic post! It's refreshing...sometimes I get on here and just see posts about how terrible Wisconsin is. My husband and I moved here a year ago and I am very happy with our decision. I totally agree with your post!

Springtime in WI is fabulous. I sat outside in the sun and read a book for 2 hours. Watched the turkeys strutting around. It was so peaceful.

I really love living in wisconsin it has so much to offer. I also am about 50% german along with quite a few wisconsinites and I am very proud of my heritage and my state. I had thought I wanted to move out of wisconsin in a few years but after reading the forums in some states I decided that there is no place like home. just my 2 cents worth.

I agree about the positive post and all the negativity on the board in general. I read other state forums, too and people need to take a deep breath before they post.

I love being in Wisconsin and don't regret moving from Illinois. I did my homework though and it amazes me the number of negative people things they didn't research when they are so vocal about Wisconsin.

Lake Michigan/Lake Superior are wonderful and no they aren't the ocean but more than big enough! I walk down to the lake every day and was so excited to see freighters on the lake again. Mountains, nope, but hills, bluffs and gorgeous views. Wisconsin is just great place to be.

I've only driven through, but I loved Wisconsin. It reminds me a lot of Vermont-- my favorite state.

I like Lake Superior better then the ocean. There is something so untamed about Lake Superior. It was one of the things that made us want to relocate to WI.
