I see it is 90 degrees in Pierre South Dakota today. No thanks! I like a gradual warm up.

I like a gradual warm up, too but it is chilly by the lake today! Rest of the area in the middle 50s, lake shore struggled to 42 and oh, man, the wind! :-)
Kate, the great lakes are the reason I'm so interested in the weather. My dad always took us down to the lake when the NE wind was blowing, he taught us to appreciate storms and what the lake could do.
We always went to Upper Michigan for vacation near where my mom was from but a few times we rented a cottage a few steps away from Lake Superior. As much as I love Lake Michigan, there is nothing like Lake Superior.

Welcome to the boards. I grew up in Chicago, down by the lake. We moved here 21 years ago when our kids were 10 and 3. We love it.
I've been to Montello a few times and really liked it.

Whenever I want to lower my blood pressure, I just close my eyes and envision myself on a road heading North somewhere North of Milwaukee, knowing I'm heading for a wide open space or to be near the lake in a quiet area (like susancruzs describes). Within a minute I can feel the joy flowing through my body....better than any drug. Yeah....ya'll got it going on........

I would also note: the extensive state college system - as well as private colleges of note eg Lawrence in Appleton - has created many liberal 'enclaves' in cities other than Mad/Milw. Perhaps not enough to swing their cities blue, but enough to make things competitive. I think Obama's team understood this by scheduling Oshkosh as a campaign stop.
