Default I Love Wisconsin!!!

Hi everyone,
I was raised in the suburbs of Chicago, but my dad is WI born and raised, and all my family is here, and I got the heck out and went back to WI as soon as I could for college!

THINGS I LOVE ABOUT WISCONSIN!!

1) the people- ALWAYS willing to help, always kind, caring, pro-active, open-minded and fair, willing to hear you out nicely even if they disagree with you
2) the weather- yes I said weather. Autumn is beautiful, summers scorch only occassionally. I love cold weather and snow and always get a hearty laugh at my school when seeing the looks of shock from Indians/Jamaicans/Africans who have to bundle up for the first time. It's hot weather that really BLOWS... cold weather you can warm up with a nice fire and some cuddling!
3) the landscape- WI is lush and green, with beautiful forests and lakes and many amazing geological wonders. My favorite region has to be the Baraboo Hills..what about yours?
4) the food- quality of produce is EXCELLENT. Wisconsin strawberries are delicious. Strawberries, cranberries, raspberries, pretty much any kind of berry. Can't beat our sweet corn. And of course the quality of beef and dairy products goes without saying.
5) the traditions of liberalism- Wisconsin votes Democratic, always has, always will! HOO RAH
6) the roads- give me a country road in WI any day.. you can ride for miles and miles and see nothing but trees, fields, and the hot sun shining on pavement- just like in a car commercial, only real.
7) the Green Bay Packers. Enough said.
8) Wisconsin's amazingly unique history and heritage from many many different groups
9) Sprecher root beer and the strong tradition of beer brewing in the region..Wisconsinites know what real beer is!

I had more reasons...but..I forgot them all. tee hee. FEEL FREE to write out your own reasons why you like the Badger State, or just castigate me for being an overly enthusiastic Wisconsinite! Of course I do miss certain things like book shops or ethnic food, but I can go to Madison for those!

My heritage in WI is German Catholic going back to the 1840s.. I'm willing to bet that most old WI families are German, Scandinavian or Polish.

I loved reading your post because the enthusiasm just jumps right out!

Six months ago I moved from Waukegan to Two Rivers, Wisconsin and I absolutely love it! Totally the right thing to do! Knowing I wanted to leave the Waukegan area, I started looking in Illinois but realized I wanted to be near the lake and didn't want the crowds, congestion, traffic, other problems!

I love walking 4 blocks to the park by the lake, the pine trees, sound of the waves roaring, just plain awesome. I can walk uptown and have coffee at Schroeder's or Stump Jack Coffee Shop, a very pleasant walk. Farmers Market all year long, concerts, festivals, being in a smaller town is just plain great!
My favorite place is Kurtz's, a German place, with great deli sandwiches and lots of choices in beer, a Two Rivers tradition for over 100 years, I think.

I'm a major transplant in Wisconsin, but I really do love living here. People are friendly, landscape is beautiful and the four seasons ... you just can't beat them.

Put me in a canoe, float me down the river and I'm as happy as can be!

One of the things I love about Wisconsin (among many) is that, for the most part, the people here are more involved in living their lives, raising their families, doing their jobs, and spending time with real friends than they are in impressing people and being part the the "in crowd." Too often folks living on the coasts are more about how they appear than how they really are. In Wisconsin it is much more real.

Well there are certainly a couple of nits I can pick here. One, that the people are "ALWAYS willing to help, always kind, caring, pro-active, open-minded and fair, willing to hear you out nicely even if they disagree with you." True in some parts, not in others. Sometimes they're stand-offish, sometimes they're set in their ways, sometimes they're not at all interested in hearing you out or hearing anything you have to say, period. But that's part and parcel of having a true diversity of people in Wisconsin -- rich, poor, urban, rural, black, white, liberal, conservative, and most things in between. Ironically, one of the things I like about Wisconsin is the tendency of certain people to be standoff-ish toward outsiders -- in other words, they mind their own business, which is fine for someone like me who more or less wants to be left alone most of the time.

Two, to claim Wisconsin always votes Democrat and always will ignores its political history. Wisconsin is still very much a swing state: Both Gore and Kerry took Wisconsin by less than one percentage point, and Republicans hold a majority in the assembly as we speak. If it weren't for Milwaukee and/or Madison, Wisconsin would be a pretty red state. Any way you look at, to imply that Wisconsin is monolithically Democrat is just plain inaccurate.

I'm glad you like it here in Wisconsin. The Baraboo Hills are quite beautiful. You should check out the Great Wisconsin River Road aka Highway 35. It runs along the Mississippi River and has endless views of amazing vistas. You should check out the Wisconsin photo thread. I've got a couple of pictures of the Baraboo hills, and other Wisconsin favorites.

I am a former WI resident and I miss a lot of things there. The friendliness of the people, the high-quality produce, the professional sports, the excellent public school system, the beautiful landscape, and beautiful weather in spring and autumn are all great things about Wisconsin.

The only bad things about Wisconsin that I can think of are Milwaukee, the weather in summer and winter, and beer brewing (I am a proud non-drinker, thank you).

Your being a "proud non-drinker" doesn't make beer brewing bad. It just makes you a proud non-drinker. Perhaps a little too proud.

Are the people here always caring, kind, fair, and willing to help? Please tell me where you live and I'll move there!

How do Wisconsinites always vote for democrats? Tommy Thompson was a republican governor for 13 years from 1987 to 2001. True, it's gone blue in the last several presidental elections, but WI went for Reagan both times and went for George H Bush in '88. Not to mention Scott Walker being re-elected as Milw County Exec just the other day.

We do have some nice geography though. My favorite area is along the Mississippi River near LaCrosse. I love the bluffs. Also, the Apostle Islands and Lake Superior and Door County are a great getaway
