Beloit College has a good reputation among those who know about it. The problem is, not many people know about it. Its influence is very regional.
Beloit is a decidedly not-international city. It's a slice of small-city America through and through. Not a lot of excitement, but it does have a pretty good quality of life. It's quiet and fairly safe.
If you need a more entertainment than Beloit can provide, there are options nearby that can help out: Madison for the "big college town" experience, and one of the best such experiences in the U.S.; Milwaukee, a small major city (if that's not a contradiction in terms) that has many major-city amenities; and Chicago, a true international urban metropolis with just about anything and everything a city of its magnitude and prominence can offer. By car, Madison is about 30 minutes away, Milwaukee about 45 minutes away, and Chicago about 90 minutes away.

Beloit College seems to be a great place to go to school. I have lived in Beloit my whole life and even lived a block away from the college for about a year. My family also was also a "host family" for one of the international students. There is a great diversity among the students and they all seem very friendly. That said, I am not a big fan of the town itself. If your really just into hitting the books hard then it would be ok but there really is nothing going for this town. There are no cultural activities or anywhere fun to go. The town also seems to be going downhill with crime and just is looking dingier by the year in general. It really is sad that such a great school is stuck in the center of this city. I see a lot of drug addicts walking along the streets and just bad company in general. The college itself is nestled quite close to some very undesirable neighborhoods. I am actually hoping to move out of the city myself. I'm sorry I couldn't give a more positive outlook but it's the truth.

My daughter really considered Beloit College. I really was impressed with the reputation and the campus. She opted to go to school in Duluth instead but Beloit was a top contender.

Sad, but true. I never cared for the Janesville-Beloit region anyways.
I recommend Univ. of Wisc. @ Eau Claire. Great school. Great clean town. Low crime rate.
I'm a little biased for Eau Claire as you can see.

Beloit is an awesome institution! If you make the right choice, you'll never regret it. Contrary to what some will say, Beloit is on the path of prosperity. I encourage you to check it out!

What did you decide? A visit would tell you a lot about the school. It is a great place to be if it fits you.

You can get a better liberal arts education at Beliot than probaly any major university.
Beliot is a solid example of what american education does best, the small liberal arts college,
if not quite in the class of a Carelton, Grinell or Macalester.
Be aware though, learning for learnings sake, though sublime in and of itself, may not
translate to cash.

My son graduated Summa from Beloit College and has gone on to have a very successful career. For a small private college you can't do much better than BC.

Beloit College is one of the finest schools in the nation. I live in Los Angeles and I compare it to USC, which is also one of the finest schools in the nation. Unfortunately, it is surrounded by some very dangerous and decaying neighborhoods. Both campuses are beautiful and safe but they are isolated from and have nothing in common with their surrounding communities.
