Tammy,
I do not know much about the UW Children's hospital or Poynette, but I do have a daughter that was born with a neurological birth defect which causes her to be behind with her large motor skills. I live in Appleton (Outagamie County), and my daughter gets therapies through the Early Intervention program (Birth to 3), and it has done wonders for my daughter. Appleton is a wonderful place to live, safe and full of fun family stuff to do. Theda Clark Medical Center in Neenah-a few miles away, is our large, specialty, trauma center hospital. An extension of Children's Hosptital of Wisconsin (Milwaukee) is located there. Many specialists from Milwaukee periodically (once or twice per month) come to the Fox Valley (Oshkosh,Neenah,Appleton) to treat children here. I have had to travel to Milwaukee for some things, though, like to see a different pediatric neurologist because there is only one in this area and I don't care for him. A couple hours drive for the best care is worth it for me. Children's Hosptial of Wisconsin wins many awards and is ranked as one of the best (
Children's Hospital of Wisconsin Awards). Another one of my children got very ill last year and she was transported to Childrens Hosptial of Milwaukee (about 1 1/2 hr drive) where they literally saved her life-she stopped breathing twice, so I highly regard that hospital. Good luck and if you need any more info on Appleton or WI please let me know. I'm sure UW Children's hospital is good, too. Appleton does have an extension of that hopital here, too, at St. Elizabeth hospital in Appleton.
