Appleton/Oshkosh
My husband has just got a job in Oshkosh and I have been looking at places for rent in Oshkosh and Appleton. The thing is, I really want to make an educated choice about which city to live in. I have two preschool aged children and obviously I want to live someplace that has good elementary schools as well as a clean and safe family friendly environment. I can't seem to find too much info about the neighborhoods in either city. I want to rent before I buy and I can spend up to about $1000.00 for rent a month. Does anyone know where the better neighborhoods are that don't cost more than this?

Oshkosh has plenty of nice areas, in fact being a delivery driver I can say I am not affraid to deliver anyplace in the Oshkosh area. If you can afford up to $1,000 a month in Oshkosh you could rent pretty much any place in this entire city. I would avoid the UW oshkosh area only because it has alot of students who stay awake till 3am and only a few blocks each way, it could be disruptive to a family.

Please keep away from Oshkosh. Its just full of red necks who think black folks are the devil. I was shot at my first week there while going to college just because of my skin tone. Most people in Oshkosh have missing teeth and try to recite the bible to you as soon as you walk in a restraurant or store.

I would choose Appleton over Oshkosh. Appleton has more shops, more restaurants, and a better downtown area (less decaying buildings than Oshkosh).
If you live in Oshkosh, you'll find yourself driving to Appleton often for the mall, larger retailers like Barnes & Noble and Best Buy, better restaurants, and a more upscale downtown area.
