None of the above is to be confused with being friendly.
Most still have all their friends have 2nd grade and dozens of relatives within 15 miles. Human nature being whay it is, what need have they of you? Unless of course
you posees some outstanding attribute like riches or youth/good looks etc.

mostly true..... except for the first part. i have lived in the small town i am in for 3.5 years now, in my home for over 2. i still do not know the names of any of my neighbors. i am outside with our baby, at the park, the library, etc so it is not like i am a hermit. about a week or so ago, i went with the baby to check the mail. the neighbor across the street was in his driveway, so i smiled and waved. he looked at me and turned and went into his garage. last winter, 3 guys at another neighbor's across the street watched me and my friend (both of us female) work for over 20 minutes to get the car out of the snowbank. they were outside visiting with each other, but not one of them came over to see if they could help. my husband and i went for a walk and decided to see the new store in town. the female clerk looked up and said hi, went back to eating her dessert and talking to the male clerk who did not say a single word to us, including when we were standing by him admiring a piece of furniture in the store. we left and said "have a good day." neither one of them said anything back to us.
we are moving out of state at the end of the month - not because of this, but for other reasons. i am looking forward to it! we are moving down south. we already know more about our new neighbors that we don't live by than we do the ones we have been by for over 2 years!

Do you not live here or something?
Westosha Central in Paddock Lake has been on Newsweek's Best Schools list forever. I love our little county. The summers can be hot, and you could get eaten alive between 6 PM and 7 AM if you don't live in an area that sprays for mosquitoes. Thankfully I live in a spray area. I have friends not as lucky ... errr had...
Property taxes are high in some places, but that's cuz Doyle is almost as horrible as Il.'s Blago, and his second term hasn't helped anyone but the endangered species. But then if you rent like I do you don't need to worry about that...
We also have NO FOOD TAX and an amazing chain of supermarkets called WOODMANS. Low prices and everything's good quality.
And how can you not drink too much when you have the best beer in the nation?? Actually "Wisconsin drinks too much" is just a negative stereotype

Different parts of the state must be different. My wife and I are both fairly shy but we had met all of our neighbors within the first few months of moving in. Most of them stopped by to introduce themselves - frequently with a housewarming offering of food We actually know more of our neighbors after just more than 1 year than we did in Tacoma in almost 13 years.
One of our neighbors has a small skidloader that he uses to clear his own and other people's driveways when the snow is too heavy. Another offered, pretty much out of the blue, to help me with some tree pruning that I needed to do.

That is the way it was around here. I would wake up at 530 am to find my neighbor shoveling our driveway in our subdivision. When our well took a hit the neighbors brought us cases of bottled water. We may have lived in a subdivision with some snotty people, but for the most part everyone was genuinely friendly. Our area was full of transplants as well, I think it is the environment. We had neighbors from Hawaii, never heard a word from them. Neighbors from Michigan were very down to earth helpful. Neighbors from Illinois were very nice as well. People from New York and Vermont didn't really say much around here. Still nice people though.
Again I think it is what surrounds them.

What's great about this state is you're not far from anything. If you want big city life, go to Milwaukee. Just the same if you prefer countryside check out the Kettle Moraine area. Wisconsin's economy is doing well and very stable. Good luck!

If there werent so many things going on right now, here, with family, chances are thats where I would have moved to when I left Az earlier this year. My choice probably would have been in or near Evansville, or Albany, as I have friends there.

i think that most parts of WI has a great sense of community pride and I disagree with berries about the schools not being good. they are great. my kids have gone to schools in WI and CA and WI schools by far are better.
