I cannot drink anymore so I am not part of it.
I seen it alot in Myrtle Beach also and other areas, maybe just the breweries that help give us a bad name.
Or is it that we are just more sociable than many other places, and have the backyard parties and such with drinks involved.

I think Madison is usually ranked pretty high as a partying college town.
Wisconsin is one of the most sociable places that we have ever lived. And we have been to a lot of get togethers since we moved here and people do enjoy their beer.
Guess having so many great breweries make people want to sample it. I do enjoy some of the local wineries. We tried some of the Door County, Three Lakes, and Wolersheim Wines and one place in New Glarus too. All very good wines.

tet tea you are right about being honest. I was asking my husband if he would ever use this report in a relocation package. He said as a way of saying that Wisconsin people are honest. Like he said New Hampshire has the #1alcohol consumption per capita. So either they are drinking and staying home or lying.
I worked in a doctor's office in New Hampshire. And we had patients fill out a survey every year on their habits. Seatbelts, exercise, drinking etc. Very few filled it out honestly. Most say they exercise every day. One guy who sat in the bar every day after work and had numerous DUi's would say he only drank 2-3 beers a week.
I say kudos for WI for being honest. But before you say WI has the highest number of drunk drivers base it on the facts. The latest facts my husband has our the following: States with highest drunk drivers involved in fatal accidents: Conneticut, Hawaii, South Daklota, Tesax, DC, then WI, Alabama, Arizona, Delaware, North Dakota and Washington.

i think that another reason that we rank so high is that our police officers are more than happy to pull someone over that has had to much to drink. The cops by us will even sit and watch the bars waiting for people to leave. Not that it is always a bad thing i would rather have them get drunk drivers off the road than to risk my childrens safty or my own. granted i like to have a drink as much as the next person but I always have a designated driver.

Well, I'm a drinker. Yes, I like to drink, but I also try not to drink & drive. That's what cabs or other friends are for I don't know, I guess if the court system would be more conservative about drunk drivers, such as perhaps sticking them in jail for awhile instead of letting some of these offenders get 3,4,5,6 tickets or more, than maybe we wouldn't hear so much about this problem.

As a nurse who once worked ER, I would send a first time offender there on a fri/sat nite. Very sobering experience to watch the results of a party nite. That could save some lives.

I remember back in 1999 a family of four had just moved to the area. The mom and dad and two children were out in their minivan on a Sunday in Middleton when they were hit by a drunk driver and their two children were killed. It was the saddest thing and it seems that nothing has changed. It amazes me the amount of adults that drink and drive. You can not just say it is a cultural thing. There is no excuse. There is more to life than getting drunk. I know too many people who are alcoholics and recking everyones life around them. Remember when our Attorney General Peg Lautenschlager was arrested for drunk driving. That was pathetic. For the sake of all the kids out there no one should ever drink and drive.

I just read in the Milwaukee Journal some disbarred doctor crashed into the back of a woman's car Friday afternoon. Killed her, her daughter and her unborn daughter. Two people were injured. The kicker he had his license revoked on Wednesday. When he killed these people he was using Ambien, xanax, and oxycodone. Too sad.

And the reason he was revoked to practice medicine largely was because he was caught writing himself erroneous prescriptions. Plus, at the time of the accident, he was headed to a pharmacy to pick up both Cialis and Viagra.
Don't think this actually has anything to do with the "drinking culture" of Wisconsin, but in this case, the guy obviously had a big pill/junkie addiction (in addition to 3 convictions for driving while impaired.)
Did we mention he was driving after being revoked of his license two days previously?
Yeesh.
