Also chickens. I know people that free range their chickens to control the ticks.

Looking at potential relocation spots and one of them is northern Wisconsin. Specifically areas like, Tomahawk, Rhinelander, up to the border, etc.. We are coming from north Idaho so we are no strangers to cold and winters, so that is not a concern. The cost for real estate in northern Wisconsin is phenomenal, especially for what we are looking for, acreage away from town. Wouldn’t mind being an hour or so away from a city. To the question though, ticks... how bad are ticks in those areas? I know the rest of Wisconsin gets lots of ticks, but is it as bad in those areas with all the water? I plan on keeping the acreage nice and trimmed up, but concerned with tick born disease as we have two younger sons who like to play in grass.

Thanks for the information,

Rooster

Have you made the move?? We made to move from Montana's Flathead valley to Vilas County WI in 2016 and would never go back! We actually have room to breath in our budget here and NO CALIFORNIANS!!!

Vilas County is on my list of possible places to move to eventually if I can retain the ability to telework full-time. It has such a high quality of life overall if one can afford it, especially compared to the insane real estate prices of most scenic locations in the western US.

There are areas that are not lake frontage there that are quite reasonable in price compared to other areas of the country I've lived in that were much more expensive.

Just have to be off water. I bought my 4 bedroom 3 full bath was 2 bonus rooms that was Built-in 2004 on 4 1/2 fully wooded acres with a 30 by 40 Pole barn and a 3 car detached garage for $190,000 fully furnished in 2016. Current appraisal is around $245,000. I just closed on two 1.5 acre lots adjacent to my property for $9,000 each in December. Property taxes on all of it are right at $2,450...

That is quite reasonable. I'm generally looking for property in the more northern rural areas around Presque Isle and Winchester.

I'm 15 miles south off of 70. The 2 areas you mentioned are nice if you only plan on silent sports. They are VERY anti-motorized recreation. Sucks for my dad who lives in Boulder Junction and is going on 75. He has a UTV and has to trailer it everywhere in order to ride. Not like a 75 yr old can peddle a bike all day..........

Just talked to my vet who says ticks are now out there, and that people should be sure to apply tick medicine to their dogs NOW. (Just FYI.)
