If your thinking about moving to WI
Just be aware that most of the threads are from people that have been here less than a year, so be aware you may be getting bad advice. DYODD and buyer beware, I do love this state, but it is not for everyone

berries, I've been here for 19 years. I know that quite a few people have been here for more than a year. You make a valid point. Remember this is a relocation thread so most who have discovered it are people who have or thought about relocating.

I agree. I grew up in Wisconsin. I'm proud to be a WI native, but it's DEFINITELY not for everyone. To be honest, most people who aren't from here would probably have a hard time adjusting. The local culture is significantly different from much of America.
Plus, there's also that weather that drives everyone mad.
I think (or at least I would hope) that most people are smart enough to do their own research though, and not just rely on anonymous internet sources. CD is a great starting point for information, but as you said, some people on here really don't know what they're talking about and aren't giving legit advice.

When we 1st bought our house 5 years ago we researched for months on where to buy our retirement home. We had spent a few summers on Lake Superior in MN/WI so we talked to a lot of people in the area before we bought. And with my husband's job we had many resources to help us decide on where we wanted to live.
We fell in love with the area over the last 5 years and weren't happy spending summers and holidays here and made the jump to full time residents about 8 years earlier then we expected. We loved our 1st full winter here and as the trees bud out and the flowers come to life, I am finding more things to enjoy.
I think that is why this is such a good fit for us because we researched it so well, there have been no unexpected suprises.

And, as others in this thread have already kind (and very politely) pointed out, they haven't been here "less than a year"...they've been here much longer.
Drover is sticking up for the many good, intelligent, and reasoned regular posters here (like you!) that, while others may at times disagree or agree with, give a good insight into life in WI.
(For instance, I may disagree with your love of Madison / Austin and your reasons for it - just like you'd disagree with my "favorite places" and reasons for them - but hey, I know you give good analysis, and darnit all, we can agree on important things like hating WI's January weather!! ).

I do agree that wisconsin is not for everybody, but if you do your homework and research research research you will may find that wisconsin is right for you and you may not but atleast you would know before you moved here. I was born and raised (now 27 years old) in wisconsin and I am still here and not going anywhere anytime soon. even though the southern states sound good in the winters.
