I think my best memories of Wisconsin would be from when I was a child. We used to go up north(Hayward)for 2 weeks to the cabin. I remember having so much fun and meeting so many different families. The innocence of being a child. Waking up to the smell of pancakes my mom was making for breakfast. Taking long walks down the road to the main road picking berries as we went.
We used to get so excited to go into town for laundry day. The town then was far different from what it is now. There was a candy shop that we always got to go to. It just had baskets and baskets of candy for cheap. We would fill our bags to the top. We had a blast on those days.
We'd go out on the lake and meet with friends of the family on an "island" (as I called it as a kid)for a fish cookout. Those were fun too.
I'm so glad my parents did these things with us. I'm not into that as much now as when I was kid, but I still appreciate those times. Long before WalMart's and fast food chains invaded Hayward. There was the Moose Cafe and that was about it.
I'm 39 now and my parents still meet up with people that would stay on the resort(5 cabins)at the same time we were there when I was 7. I think it's pretty cool. They have been friends with the cookout people for just as long. They go out to dinner with them quite often.
I wouldn't trade those memories for anything. I had a great childhood and I'm so glad for all the things my parents did with us.
Not living there now is extremely hard on us, but we are trying to make the best of what we have where we are now. Someday we will get back to living in Wisconsin, for now at least it's only a 3 1/2 hour drive. Unfortunetly with the gas prices, our trips home have been cut drastically.
