Shannon. Since you are from California, and since you are moving to Wisconsin, we will overlook that choice. We wouldn't expect you to be up to speed on the available selections. The same goes for cheese.
Once you get here though everything changes. Check in with us about the best choices, or look into some of Drovers past posts on the subject of Wisconsin beers. Although he is not from around here, he seems to spend a lot of time here. His knowledge on the subject of Wisconsin beers is encyclopedic, and first hand. From what I have read I would definately trust his recommendations. For example, Wisconsin's best beer: Belgian Red by New Glarus. Heartily agreed.
(all in fun guys, ok? )

I agree with Gallon. There are lots of microbreweries in Wisconsin that Drover can give you information on.

Wow... there are not many places in the US have have more good breweries than Wisconsin, but California is one of them. You're verily surrounded by good beer.

Shannon, I know you are trying to get me going with that one. Almost worked too! I have spent time in CA. When the upscale stores want to put out good cheese, they put out Tillamooks, imported from Oregon. When you get here, we'll show you the good stuff.

Key word being 'more', which one would expect since they have eight times the population. How do you rate comparative quality?

Even on a per-capita basis California has a brick-ton of breweries and brewpubs, somewhere around 250. Quality of California beer runs the gamut from great to awful just as it does in any place with a lot of breweries. While Wisconsin only has one brewery (New Glarus) that is considered among the top tier of quality craft breweries, California has at least three: Alesmith, Stone and Russian River. Anchor and Sierra Nevada are California's equivalent to Point and Lienenkugel's. And IMO the edge clearly goes to Anchor and Sierra Nevada.
