My experience with Waupaca dates back many decades, moved out in 1947.
I have visited it in recent years, and still have some family ties to it. It is a lovely little town that hasn't changed much over the years. When I left the population was 5,000, not much bigger than that now.
How I remember it:
Summer concerts in the bandstand were held every Wednesday evening. The bandstand was located on the courthouse lawn, smack dab in the center of town on Main street. It was a quaint little Gazebo painted white, used the rest of the week for kids to run around in. And that bandstand still stands there as of this day! The courthouse lawn was also a quiet place for old folks to sit under the Oak trees and feed the squirrels. On those Wednesday nights when the band played vendors would appear to sell cotton candy, popcorn, and other things. The stores took the opportunity to stay open later that day, well beyond the normal closing time of 5:00.

I grew up in New London (about 20 miles from there) and used to work at the local radio station in Waupaca (WDUX) from 1998-2000. I still know people who live there as well.
