Cell Phone Service in the UP
DH is about to change jobs and will be traveling to the northwoods area frequently. He will need to purchase his own cell phone and we are wondering which company has the most towers/best service up there.
Any suggestions?

The best way to go is probably US Cell, But make sure you get the nationwide plan because the wide area is considered roaming past Stevens Point.

Thanks! Looks like they have a Nationwide plan with unlimited everything for $100 a month.

To be honest I have the nationwide plan with 650 minutes plus free nites and weekend and free incoming for only $50. I also have unlimited texting which is $15. I think really the 650 is quite ideal if most of your calls are incoming or your calling later in the afternoon.

Good Idea. I remember last summer I was taking a one last summer trip up to the cabin in Minocqua with my new phone plan. Well me being the cash saving guy I'm I went with the el cheapo aka the wide area plan and spent over $60.00 on roaming charges alone. I was mad. Even when someone called me I had to pay! I decided to switch my plan to nationwide to save some money in the long run.

That's exactly what I'm worried about, those roaming charges. I think it will be worth the extra money up front each month to avoid "penalties" because he is on the road and away from the Fox Cities.
