I'm sorry I don't agree with your assessment of Wisconsin alot of people love to go hiking in all the beautiful state parks, camping also, its a great place to fish on Lake Michigan and smaller lakes. They have festivals all over the state. There is alot to do in Wisconsin besides going to the Pub

When I saw your post, I had to show my husband. That is EXACTLY how he feels! We are so close to our neighbors and the other night he was cutting grass. Well, the neighbors behind us were sitting outside and their neighbor from across the street was over. They all turned their chairs to watch my husband cut grass!!! He was so steaming mad when he came back in the house. Is cutting grass that exciting??? And they are outside all the time so its hard to avoid talking to them. Its not like we try to be mean or dont like them, they are very nice but its like we see them out side every day and some days you just dont want to talk! Or you want to have a family gathering and you have people watching your every move.
That is just one of the many reasons my husband and I will be relocating from Virginia to Wisconsin. That's where I'm from origionally and every time we go back he talks about how much he loves it up there. You can still live close to the city and yet have peace and quiet. And no traffic, better weather, etc. He likes the cold and snow as do I so winters dont bother us much. We are disappointed we dont get half the snow here!
I think Wisconsin has ALOT to offer and it is what you make it. Like I said in a previous post, I had to move away and learn the hard way to realize just how much it has to offer. It is THE place to raise a family, I believe, and has so much to offer. And I've never heard of people having a hard time getting along with others. I was always meeting new people through work and we even formed a volleyball team together. I think it is what you make it.

Geez--I wish I could say that I had a minute to spare in the summertime--and it's not because I am watching TV or sitting in a bar. Let's see--I am a boater, a water-skier, jet skier--a volunteer in my community--a woodworker--a walker--a gardener--a fisherperson--I hold a full-time+ job--and spend three hours a week mowing my lawn. There is SO much to do in WI--if you are bored, don't socialize with the barflies, get off your duff and do something.
Oh--and something I have in commen with you, Betty.....I am female.

I have to agree with Wi_Girl this is a very friendly state indeed! Poeple are very sociable here. Sure there is a lot fo activity in the bars but remember we are a large beer producing and consuming state! Many people like to gather for a drink after work just to relax and socialize or meet with friends.
The smaller towns are very friendly, so are the rural communities.

The OP is judging WI by her experiences in Kenosha. That's like judging Mexico by only going to Tiajuana.

That's not true. It's based on my experience living in three Wisconsin towns. I've visited numerous others. By the way, I can name many major cities in Mexico; can't say the same about Wisconsin, so it's not really the same comparison.

It is what you make of it...there is recreation, there are music and art events, there is culture, and don't forget about the Packers and the Brewers. There are choices, sometimes too many on the same weekend. Ever been to Summerfest? Have you ever been to Door County to see the goats on the roof? Have you been to the Dells, waterpark capital of the world? Have you ever lived in a state where you had to haul your boat 300 miles to find a lake to put it in? Live in California once, and then spend most of your life in a car, parked in a lot called a freeway on your way to the lake in Arizona. Or in line, waiting for just about everything. There is a lot to do here in Wisconsin, or you can do nothing. The choice is up to you.
Sure there are alot of neon beer signs in Wisconsin, but many of us transplants have come here and stayed because of the quality of life.

Uh, no, never hauled my boat. Don't have one, and don't intend to save up for a boat. Yeah, been to the Dells. I know you don't want to hear me say anything but good about the Dells, but it's expensive and not something one can do more than once every couple of years, unless you don't like exploring other places, and like to spend alot of money for nothing but Waterpark resorts. And to be honest, if you spend more than one night, it's gonna cost several hundreds of dollars, not including food and anything outside of the hotel, and if I'm gonna spend just two nights and $600 or more, I could afford to go to Mexico. So yeah, I know what the Dells is about. Anyone who tries to defend Wisconsin talks about the Dells.

Anyone have any thoughts on Menomonie
I love Wisconsin..my mom has a cabin on a lake up near the UP.
Can anyone tell me what Menomonie is like? She and I are from rural Illinois...
I'm trying to get there ASAP...love to go riding on a one horse open sleigh (which I have...both >smile<)

I just threw the Dells in there as an example of things to do in Wisconsin. As a travel agent, I booked many travelers for stays in the Dells. That is all.
Hey everyone, its sunny today and there are people outside doing things! I'm going out there too~
