I've got to say that I just love trolls on forums like this. They always seem to do a much better job of bringing out people with ideas than just asking "What's there to do in Wisconsin?"
We're relocating to Waupun from the west coast - looking for better winter weather - so please keep the suggestions rolling!

Where in BFE are you from???
People who live in these small towns usually live there for a reason. They DO NOT WANT the hussle of city life. We enjoy the "fresh" air we breath and enjoy seeing the stars at night, instead of a smog filled sky. It may be slower pace but we enjoy life. There are lots of things that people do for recreation. Yes including myself and most of my friends on a Friday night we would hit the tavern a down too many beers, but we enjoyed hanging out with our friends and catching up. In the summer you would find a local beach and take your kids, go boating, fishing, biking, camping or take a drive to upper Michigan or Door County or wherever. We would be outside from sun up until weee hours of the morning enjoying the weather as long as the mosquitos weren't out. They could almost carry you away at times. We had camp fires in our back yard all the time. In the winter travel can be a little scary at times with the freezing rain and the -0 degree weather but for the most part travel is OK. But as for winter there's a lot of skiing and snowmobiling and ice fishing. If enjoying all that makes me UNEDUCATED so be it. Who is anyone to judge what other people enjoy doing on there time. There are those people who frequent the bar most weekends. Every state, every town has those people.
So if I lived in the city I would go the mall or the museum or go shopping, maybe catch a musical or something like that. You can only do that so often. Done it. It gets boring. I would take a six pack of beer over a musical any day. A lot of us women are pretty proud that we can handle a six pack of beer over the snooty woman who gets tipsy over a glass of wine or champagne. Give me a break!!! Wisconsin may not have mountains or lots of big cities but it does have a lot to offer. If you can't enjoy the lakes and rivers and the lush grass and fresh air then stay in your stuffy city life and worry about what YOU are doing on a Friday night.!!
Most people from Wisconsin are hard working blue collar folk. They enjoy having a few beers and a brat after a long days work, or a long weeks work. So what. People there are real. What you see is what you get. Most people are very friendly. We met one of our best friends by just walking up and saying hello. Friends for years now. Some people do fall into a routine. That happens everywhere. If they are happy with it so be it. They do what they enjoy.

Thanks to Uncle Sam I've lived in and visited many U.S. states and countries. All have had their good points and bad ones. But life is what you make it. If go looking for the negative then I'm sure you'll probably find it. Be thankful for the freedom and liberties that you are able to enjoy.

We moved to central WI from Chicago 20 years ago. I can say we are never bored. We are taking out the snow shoes today. Yesterday we took our grandson for a walk in the woods and then built a snowman. When our kids were little they biked to the pool, they played games with the kids in the neighborhood at night, hide and go seek etc. Our kids are grown but our neighborhood is still filled with kids rollerblading, biking, playing basketball, street hockey. The kids across the street are 5&4 and yesterday they were sledding in their front yard and building a snowman.
We hardly ever watch tv, don't drink and I think the last time I ate brat was at the Special Olympics picnic last summer, I was a volunteer. Our parks and pools are full of kids in the summer. Maybe you need to look for a new area to live in.

I currently live in california and believe it or not it's the same way here. people pull up to their houses open their garage doors pull in and that's that. so i don't think it's just a wi thing.also i lived in wi for three years and was surprised at how much people did get out at least in the summer. i lived in manitowoc and people were always at hte beach or riding their bike along lake michigan or boating or having grill outs and there are all kinds of city sponsored events like riverwalk salmon derby etc. and they were always packed. oh and remember this. you said that people have a lack of social skills because they don't look you in the eyes well here they not only look you in the eyes they stare you down wanting to challenge you because here people mistake intimidation and fear with respect. just the other day a bar that i sometimes go to had a killing because some gang banger felt disrespected. and believe me i don't live in L.A. but that's how bad it's getting here. we now call it mexifornia. so anyway be thankful that you don't have to worry about you or your kids because of the punks that live right down the street like we do and get out there and do something.

Have not heard anything from Betty since January. She must have found something to do, maybe she moved to a more exciting state.

OMG !!!!!!!!
I just have to add my 3 cents here for just a moment ( and yes, I always say 3, I just can't stop at 2 )
I've just read 6 pages full of some really great humor ....
I've lived all over the US and life IS what you make it !!!!!
Wisconsin is great ~ ALL OVER ....
Every one made great points and Betty just wants to boop in her ****....
Obviously she is more self centered and self consumed then she is interested in going outside and making a snowman with her daughter.
hmmm maybe people WORK during the day ???? That's why no one was at the park that day !!! Just a thought here ...
and Ps ~ just for sh**s and giggles ... I hope my grammer and puncuations and spelling is really BAD !!!!!!!! LOLOLOLOLOLOL !!!!!!
Seriously ~ girl friend needs a coke, a prozac and a smile !!! Oh and maybe A REALITY CHECK !!!!!!! Hey she could go on surreal life ....... LOL

Liz1, you sound like somebody who lives by one's own advice!
Personally, I appreciate bettyboopster and illwauk at the very least for making this board a little bit more interesting!
I wonder why there were so many posts deleted though.

I will admit, despite some of Wisconsin's infamous 'Oddities", overall it is not a bad place. Appleton Aside!!
